TOWNSEND EDITOR
SPEAKS 10 225 ON
PENSION EFFORT
Sherman J. Bainbridge, edi
tor of the Townsend National
Weekly, spoke to an audience of
about 225, mostly elderly folk
in the high school auditorium
last night. His talk was intend
ed chiefly to refute arguments
directed against the so-called j
"$60 at 60" pension plan, which i
he termed "insurance against
want", and which he said was
hearing vistory.
He was introduced by Glenn
Wilson, organizer for the Town
send movement from Iowa. Mr.
Wilson said that right now
things looked favorable for the
pension movement, but that it
could expect to find big guns
trained on it before long. Mr.
Wilson was introduced .by chair
man Lea Parker of Medford.
Mayor Clarence Meeker was
present, and welcomed the
speakers on behalf of the city
of Medford.
Music was furnished by Mrs.
Eve Prentice's accordion band,
playing several numbers. Mrs.
Effie Kurtz sang three songs for
the gathering, and a beautiful
bouquet of flowers was placed
on the stage by Mrs. Nellie
Bowles.
