halfback who personally ac

Sportsman's Park, St. Louis,
Sept. 30 U.R The St. Louis
Browns, baseball's rags to riches
kids, came up with some more
spectacular pitching and field
ing today to keep their pennant
hopes alive with a brilliant s to
0 victory over the New York
Yankees.
The victory, coupled with De
troit's defeat of Washington, sent
the Browns and the Tigers Into
the final day of th 1944 season
Just where thoy were 153 games
ago. And if the 154th game to

Dennis Galehouse turned the
Yankee back on five hits and
with the aid of magnificent
fielding by Krecvich, and Christ
man never was In serious
trouble.
His shutout was the fourth
turned in bv a St. Louis pitcher
In the Browns last six games and
it extended the streak of score
loss innings for the Yankees to
26.
It took clutch pitching by
Dubiel. too, to turn the Browns
back with only one run In the
early innings. They got that one
in the first, Don Gutteridge
walked, went to second when
Chen Laabs beat out a bunt.
Vernon Stephens' fly enabled
Gutteridge to score.
But Dubiel settled down then
and turned the Browns back
without further damage. But he
got into another Jam In the sec
ond when Hayworth singled and
went all the way to third when
Dubiel picked up Galehouse's
sacrifice bunt and threw it into
center field. With men on third
and second and none out, he bore
dow again to shut the scoring
door.
That run loomed bigger and
bigger with Galehouse setting
down the Yankees inning after
inning. In the sixth, Moore hit
his sixth home run of the season.
In the all-important game to
morrow, Sewell will go with Sig
Jakucki, who has won 12 games
while losing nine this season,
and McCarthy will use Queen,
whose record Is six and two.
