1943, level, when the OPA moves

rent executive, announced today
that the county will become an
operating defense-ren'al area
at the beginning of the month,
and that October 1, 1943, be
comes the maximum rent date
(or Klamath county.
All rentals, as of October 1,
1943, will become the maximum
rent figure for Klamath county.
Cage stated. All rental housing
accommodations, including
houses, apartments, hotels, tour
ist camps, rooms in private
homes and rooming " houses.

tober 1, 1944.
Previous Attempt
Early last spring landlords at
tempted to handle the rent situa
tion in their own manner and
organized the fair rent commit
tee upon approval and recom
mendation of the city council.
Two years ago the Landlords
association was organized for the
purpose of -ent control but as a
group was unable to function to
the point where control was ef
fective. F. W. Van Busklrk, secretary
of the association which has
been Inactive for some time, said
that, In his opinion, the large
operators had kept their rentals
down to a comparative figure
with the increase in living ocn
ditions, but that it was the small
landlord and the tourist and
trailer camp operators which
have finally brought about the
decision of OPA to come in here

Zion Lutheran church, West
F..urth at Oakdale, for a special
service of re-dedication next
Sunday at 11 i. m., it was an
nounced today by the Rev. Karl
W. Brockhaus, pastor.
All the decorative work was
planned and executed by E. A
Stamm, a member of the con
gregation, who has had over 40
years experience in the field of
interior decoration and has
worked on innumerable churches
and cathedrals both in this coun
try and abroad. Mr. Stamm ob
tained his basic training in the
Imperial Academy at Berlin and
for a number of years thereaft
er worked on such world fam
ous churches as the Kaiser WII
helm Memorial church, now in
ruins, the Emmanuel church of
Berlin, St. Mark's of Rome, Italy,
as well as about 25 other smaller
churches in Europe.
Mr. Stamm completed his
work on the church this week
and men of the brotherhood as
sisted in the cleanup work.

Rome, Sept. 20 (U.R) British
8th army troops entered the tiny
republic of Sai- Marino near the
Adriatic coast today to engage
German forces operating there
in violation of its proclaimed
neutrality.
The British troops crossed the
frontier at Faetano, two miles
northwest of Montescudo, and
advanced one mile toward the
city of San Marino, 11 miles in
land and approximately tn the
center of the little republic.
The country, with an area of
38 square miles and a normal
population of about 14,000, was
crowded with some 100,000 refugees.
