BOTH IN ACTION
May Meet For Title In Fu
ture; Champ Faces Olson
In Main Tilt Thursday.
When Jack Kaiser of Vancou
ver, Wash., lifted the Pacific
Coast light heavyweight mat
crown from (he Finnish brow of
Paavo Katonen in Salem recent
ly, he promised the latter a re
turn match and a chance to re
gain the bauble.
Kaiser also made another
oromise. this one to Promoter
Mack Lillnrd. It was a promise
that he would, in the near fu
ture, defend Ills title in the Med
ford armory grappling ring.
Both Kaiser and Katonen are
featured on Thursday night's
armory program, and although
they are not facing each other
their rerpectlvo matches may
lead to an honest - to - goodness
championship bout before many
more weeks pass.
Kaiser, on tomorrow night's
card, Is battling Milt Olson of
Milwaukee, Wis., In the one
hour top event, while Katonen
if tangling with rough, tough
Pat O'Dowdy in the four round
middle contest.
If Katonen can get over the
O'Dowdy hurdle, and any sub
sequent brawls in which he may
become entangled, he will be in
an excellent position to remind
Kaiser of that promised return
match. And, If Kaiser agrees, the
chances are good that it will be
staged in Mcdford, where Flashy
Jack has said he would lay the
toga on the lino.
The main struggle figures to
be one of the most sensational
rating the go strictly even-up,
Despite O'Dowdy's unortho
dox matwork which verges on
the brutal, Katonen Is expected
to put him In his proper place
after a hard battle.

The Yanks, boasting 13 vic

"A's" this season, were favored
to swell their margin to a full
game over the idle second place

McCarthy, remembering full

in first place on their last east

was McCarthy's choice to in- j
