make a computation and assess
ment of tho amounts of money
necessary to be raised by the
district, for district purposes,
charges and its bond and interest
payments and did determine the
number of irrigable acres owned
by each landowner or assess
ment payer in the district, and
the proportionate assessments to
be changed against each such
tract; and said assessment roll is
avnilublo nnd open for examin
ation and inspection hy all inter
ested parties during office hours
of each business day at the office
of Secretary of Gold Hill Irriga
tion District.

TOLD IN LETTER

Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt gave
her definition of social equality
yestcrdny as "what you have
among friends."
"It was foolish of people to
talk In general terms of social
equality because that was a
thing to be dealt with on a per
sonal basis," Mrs. Roosevelt
said In discussing a letter she
wrote Mrs. Catherine StaH
worth of Evergreen, Ala.. In
which she denied that she advo-
' eated social equality between
Negroes and whites.
"No one can tell me I've got
to ask someone to dinner if I
don't want to and neither can
they tell me not to ask people
I want to ask," she said.
She scoffed at fears expressed
by southerners that the whites
would have no say In civic af
fairs In towns where the Ne
groes were In the majority If
the Negroes were allowed equal
political rights. Al. Negroes
would not vote one way, she
said.
"They don't all feel the same.
j There are no more similarities In
that group than tn any otner,
she said.

dicted. "There will be a very distinct
chango In discrimination which
affects people now because they
are lacking In the fundamental
rights of citizenship.'1 she said
