Miss Joan Holmes
Becomes Bride Of
Lt. Eugene Myers
Eagle Point One of late sum
mer's largest weddings was that
of Miss Joan Holmes, who be
came the bride of Lt. Eugene P.
Myers of Oakland, Calif., on Sat
urday, August 26. The bride's
parents are Mr. and Mrs. George
B. Holmes of Eagle Point and
the groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Myers of Oakland.
The double-ring service was
read at nine o'clock in the eve
ning at the home of the bride's
parents, the rooms having been
decorated with white and pink
gladioli, St. Joseph lilies, other
garden flowers and candles. An
arch of ferns, with the fireplace
as a background, formed the set
ting for the bridal purly and
pink gladioli and tall tapers had
been arranged on the fireplace
mantel. The Rev. Wolford A.
Dawes, pastor of the Medford
Baptist church, performed the
rites and Mr. Holmes gave his
daughter in marriage.
Miss Holmes' wedding cos
tume was a suit of powder blue,
with accessories of white, and
her corsage was of white blos
soms. Her mother wore a black
sheer dress and a white corsage.
Both bride and groom were un
attended. About 150 guests from Eagle
Point, Medford and Ashland at
tended the -wedding and recep
tion held Immediately afterward
the guests including the groom's
father, who traveled from Oak
land for the service.
The bride's table was centered
with the large tiered wedding
t.ke which was circled with
nosegays of white gladioli, baby
breath and mock orange blos
soms. Lt. Myers and his bride
cut the first slice of cako alter
which the serving was complet
ed by Mrs. Elmer Wilson, Mrs.
John P. Moffnt and Mrs. William
Holmes, all three being aunts of
the bride. Miss Betty Brown of
Medford and Miss Yvonne
Christlieb of Ashland, school
friends of the bride, served
punch.
Lt. and Mrs. Myers left after
the ceremony for a visit to the
homo of the groom's parents In
Oakland and then continued to
Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri,
where the lieutenant will be
stationed.
Mrs. Myers Is a descendant of
two pioneer families of the val
ley. Her parental great-grandfather
established George Brown
ana ouns store in &agic j'oini in t
the early 1880's. Her maternal I
grandmother, Mrs. Thomas Kilcy
who was present at the wedding,
was born in Jackson county, her
parents being among the first
settlers In the valley. The bride
Is the only granddaughter on
either side of the family. The
wedding was on the 23rd anni
versary of her parents' wedding.
The bride's early education
was in the Eagle Point schools
and after graduating from the
Eagle Point high school she at
tended and graduated from the
Southern Oregon College of
Education In Ashland. Later she
attended Oregon State College
for one year and became a mem
ber of the college chapter of
Alpha Delta Pi.
Lt. Myers attended the Uni
versity of California, where he
studied chemical engineering.
He attended Oregon State Col
lege under the Army Specialized
Training Program and was com
missioned August 23 at Ft. licl
volr, Va.

navy, at a ceremony held Fri
day, August 25 at the home of
the groom's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Leslie Dunagan, 412 West
Jackson boulevard. The bride Is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Einer Johnson of Orchard Home
Drive.
The rites were read at 7:30
o'clock in the evening by the
Rev. James Dole of Medford, an
uncle of the groom. Setting for
the service was the fireplace
banked with flowers and ferns
and with lighted candles on the
mantel. Preceding the ceremony
Mrs. Charles Cummon of Med
ford sang "Because" and Miss
Gloria Dunagan, sister of the
groom, sang "I Love You Truly".
Mrs. Joseph J. Munshaw of Cen
tral Point played the wedding
processional and accompanied
Mrs. Cummon and Miss Dunna
gan. Miss Johnson's wedding gown
was of white slipper satin, fash
ioned on princess lines and with
a sweetheart neckline and her
fingertip length tulle veil was
held with tiny pink rosebuds.
She wore long lace flngcrless
gloves and a string of pearls, gift
of the groom. Her bouquet was
white gladioli and pink rose
buds. Mald-of-honor was Miss Kath
erine Mnlone of Medford, and
her gown was of blue satin and
tulle trimmed with silver sequin
butterflies. Her corsage was of
pink and white blossoms.
Best man for the groom was
Claud Johnson of Prospect.
At the reception, also held at
the Dunagan home, Mrs. Claud
Johnson and Miss Beatrice
Underwood poured. Among out-of-town
guests at the wedding
was the groom's grandmother.
Mrs. Alma Call of Rogue River.
Mr. Dunagan and his bride
are on a wedding trip to Los
Angeles and Hollywood, follow
ing which the groom will again
report for sea duty and Mrs.
Dunagan will return to Med
ford. Mr. Dunagan, seaman first
class, has been on active duty
for a considerable time.

Mrs. H. P. Blanton of Route 1
has announced tho engagement
of her daughter, Paula, to Pvt.
Ray Casebeer, son of Mrs. Elsie
Casebeer, Central Point. The
announcement was made Sun
day, August 27, at a dinner
given at Rupp's cafe in Central
Point.
Both Miss Blanton and Pvt.
Casebeer are well known in the
city and valley, both having
graduated with the class of 1944
from Medford senior high school
where both were prominent in
school activities. No date has
been set for the wedding, as
Miss Blanton plans to continue
her education at the University
of Oregon this fall and Pvt.
Casebeer Is on duty with the
army. He was here for the an
nouncement dinner and has now
returned to California for as
signment, having recently com
pleted basic Infantry training at
Camp Roberts, Calif.
Miss Blanton's father is at
present In Hawaii, where he is
in government employ.

cently returned to this country
after an extended period of sea
duty, with the navy. The groom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
C. Dooms, former Medford resi
dents and well known here.

Shows Increase
For September
Labor Day and September
are bringing the usual increased
calendar of events, with clubs,
study groups and church organ
izations resuming their sched
uled programs after summer va
cation. Several weddings and
engagements announced this
past week are of much local in
terest. The annual tournament of the
Rogue River Valley Golf club
and the horse show being staged
in Ashland by the Ashland Rid
ing association, added to diffi-
cult traveling conditions, are
' tending to keep valley residents
at home over the Labor Day
holiday. It is expected that
many people from the Medford
district will be in Ashland for
the horse show. Members of the
Ladies' Mounted Troop are pre
senting a drill for the show,
and members will also enter
other events.

To Ride In Show
A swimming party and supper
were given last Sunday evening
by members of the Ladies Mount
ed Troop for the Sheriff s Posse,
the affair being at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. C. Rease Braley,
45 Valley View Drive. Arrange
ments were in charge of Mrs.
Braley, Mrs. C. Lyall Fidler, cap-
taln of the Troop, Mrs. Paul Bul-
kin and Mrs. Carl Bismark.
Following swimming a spa
ghetti supper, prepared by Paul
Bulkin, was served. Later In the
evening Eugene Thomas showed
movies taken by George Field
and . Mr. Braley, Including pic
tures of the Posse and Troop ride
last year to the Grant Ranch in
the Applegate and of the rodeo
and horse show given this sum
mer by the Posse.
About 50 attended the affair.
This evening members of the
troop are making a moonlight
ride to Ashland and tomorrow
will present a drill as part of
the horse show being given
Labor Day bv the Ashland Rid-
ing association. Tonight's ride
terminates at tne waiter Hamby
ranch, where the horses will be
stabled until Monday. In addi
tion to appearing as a drill team,
several members plan to enter
other events of the show.

Age and Sgt. Ritter plan to be

home of Sgt. Ritter's parents

Miss Age has worked in the
X-ray clinic of the Station Hos
pital here for the past two years
as secretary to Lt. Col. C. E.
Fitzsimmons. The sergeant has
recently returned from three
and one-half years of active duty
in the South Pacific and Is now
stationed at Camp Stewart,
Georgia.
Shangla Family Home
From Month's Vacation
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Shangle
and three children, Vern, Jr.,
Bob and Carolyn, returned to
Medford last week from a
month's vacation spent at their!
farm on Orcas Island, Puget
Sound. The Shangle home Is on
King's Highway. Mr. Shangle,
Medford photographer, states
that he has reopened his studio, j
which was redecorated during 1
his absence.

in Medford from Portland and
are the house guests of Mr. and
Mrs. H. E. Bowser, 1503 East
Main street. The Staples at one
time made their home here and
are widely known. Mr. Staples
is entered in the annual fall

11 in San Francisco. The service
took place In the office of Judge
Dunn in the Elks Temple there.

Mr. and Mrs. Richey will live
in San Francisco, since the
groom, gunners' mate third class
in the navy, is stationed at Trea
sure Island. The bride graduated
from Medford high school with
the class of 1944.

At First Meeting
Zuleima Temple
Zuleima Temple, Daughters of
the Nile, will resume the year's
program of meetings Sept. 9, of
ficers announced last week.
First meeting of the fall is to
be at the Masonic Temple in
Medford at 2 o'clock and will
feature a report by Mrs. Frank
lin L. Vannice, queen, Grants
Pass, on the meeting of the Su
preme Temple.
A tea and program will fol
low the business meeting, with
the Nile patrol in charge. Mrs.
Eugene Orr is captain of the
patrol.

of Los Angeles arrived in Med
ford Wednesday to spend 10
days with Mr. Swartz's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. William Swartz,
121 Genesee rtreet. Mr. Swartz,
who is an interior decorator em
ployed by Paramount Studios,
is making his first visit home in
two years.
