18th green at Tarn O'Shanter
was a revered spot today as high
flying Johnny Bulla, the com
mcrcir.l airplane pilot from At
lanta. Ga., led the nation's best
professionals through their sec
ond 18 holes of medal play for
the ail-American open golf cham
pionship. The large, rolling green the
end of a tough, par-72 course
was the scene of some of the
greatest putting of the season
yesterday. It wns there that
Bulla sank a curving 15-foot
birdie putt to tie the course rec
ord of 65 and take a three-stroke
lead with 64 holes to go.

of $13,642 in war bonds.
Then Cpl. Buck White, runner
up In last year's all-American

over the sloping green. It
dropped to keep the soldier In
the running with a 72.
Late in the day. Bill Gordon.
Tarn O'Shanter professional, fin
ished off a futile 78 by holing out
a 50-foot putt from off the green,
a feat which few people present
had ever seen.
Great Finish
But of all the lengthy shots,
nothing will be better remem
bered than the one that Bulla
confidently sank to tie the course
record set by Leonard Dodson of
Kansas City in 1042 and match
ed Nelson and Johnny Revolta.
It climaxed one of the greatest
back-nine finishes seen In go'f.
One under par with a 35 at
the turn, the Georgia pro shot
a btrdle on the 460-yard tenth
and added a par on the 11th.
Playing with Cpl. Chick Harhert,
Battle Creek, Mich., who shot
a 69, Bulla then gave a rare golf
ing exhibition as he fired four
straight birdies over the courso's
toughest stretch. He added two
pars, and finished his round with
his sensational nutt for a birdie
on the par-4 18th.
In addition to Bulla and Nel
aon, other favored golfers today
were the 69 shooters of yester
day, Gene Sarazen, the Connec
ticut squire who has moved his
farming operations to New York:
Bud Lewis, nPiladclphla; Pete
Cooper, Gainesville, Fla., and
Harbort.

forms, R-534, are now available
at service stations and at the
ration board office.
Applicants were urged to
read the instruction on the re
newal form carefully and to fill
out the form completely, except
for the heavy-lined spaces where
there are specific instructions
not to write. If the form is not
filled out in full, it will be re
turned to the applicant for com
pletion. When the form is filled
out, attach the back cover of
the holder's present "A" book,
o rthe entire cover if there are
no stamps left In it. Mail appli
cation, together with the cover,
to the board at the city hall in
Medford if the applicant lives
under the jurisdiction of the
Medford board.
If Cover Lost
If the applicant has lost the
cover of the "A" book, he
should submit the application
with proof that he has a car
entitling him to an "A" ration,
that the car is currently regis
tered and in use, that he has not
received a renewed "A" book
from another board and that he
he has no application in at an
other board.
It was stated that the tire In
spection record is not required,
since this has been superseded
by a mileage rationing record.
