Speaker Coming Charles T.
Wetterman, Chicago, national
official of the Townsend move
ment, will speak this evening on
the Oregon state pension bill
which will be on the November
election ballot. Wetterman will
speak at a meeting of Medford
Townsend Club No. 1 at the
K. of P hall at 8 p. m. It is
stated that the public Is invited
to attend and that no charge
will be made. A large attend
ance is anticipated.

one of the few young women
ever to qualify for an electri
cian's rating in the navy accord

navy recruiting officer. Miss
Swayne is stationed in the com
munication branch at Washing
ton, D. C. and this is her first
leave since enlisting through
the Medford office in Septem
ber Of 1943. She leaves August
31 to return to her station.

with bad check cases, and
warned local merchants to use
care in cashing checks for per

passers of worthless checks

declined to submit the informa
tion sought by a senate commit
tee, but blocked the war depart
ment from getting the same in
formation, needed in a study of
possible army disposition of the
Breakers Hotel in West Palm
Beach, according to charges
made by Senator Ferguson (R.,
Mich.)
Train Wreck Due To
High Speed on Curve

to prevent excessive speed on
curves was assigned by the in
terstate commerce commission
today as the cause of the derail
ment of an Atchison, Topeka
and Santa Fe passenger train
near Maine, Arizona, last July 3
resulting in the death of four
persons and the injury of 126.

car efficiency program. He call'

freight loadings- In July have
already approximated the peak
in October, 1943. The load is
running 4 per cent ahead of a
year ago, he said, and will In
crease into October which has
always been the heaviest ship
ping month.

Willis Mahoney, Klamath
Falls, Democratic candidate for
the office of United States sena
tor, is expected to arrive in Med
ford this evening. L. P. Mathes,
Central Point, congressional
committeeman for this district,1
stated this morning that a mes
sage from Mahoney was to the
effect that he would be at the
Medford Hotel about 8 p.m. this
evening for conferences with
party officials and friends.
It was believed the candidate
would remain in Medford for a
day or so.
