Picnic Thursday
Honors Butlers
More than 50 were in atten
dance at the picnic dinner given
by members of Royal Neighbors
of America Thursday evening
at the home of Mr. and Mrs,.'
Harry Miller on Orchard Home
Drive. Specially honored were
Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Butler of
Los Angeles, Mrs. Butler being
a me'mber of the Royal Neigh
bors lodge in Medford and of
the Mistletoe club for a con
siderable time.
Since the honored, guests were
but recently married, an im
promptu mock wedding was
staged following the picnic din
ner and Mrs. Butler was pre
sented with gifts from the lodge,
the club, and from friends in the
group. An original potm was
read by Mrs. Miller and Mrs.
Else Walker, oracle, gave a
reading.
The Butlers are leaving to
morrow to return to Los Angeles.
Visitor Honored
At Bridge Affairs
Given Last Week
Mrs. W. E. Ottmer of West
Bend, Wis., a popular visitor in
Medford, was honored last week
at two bridge parties. Mrs. Ott
mer is spending the summer
months with her daughter, Mrs.
W. Alex Kuehlthau, 55 North
Orange street, and has been
complimented with several in
formal affairs.
Entertaining last week were
Mrs. E. S. Degman, who invited
a group of 12 to her home on
Elm street Monday evening for
bridge, and Mrs. Henry Zachari
sen, who entertained at small
bridge patty at her home, 714
Beekman street, Tuesday afternoon.

Medford Student
Given Scholarship
Miss Oda Ball is arriving in
Medford today to spend a few
days with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. M. Bali, 726 Newtown
street, having just completed the
summer session at the Univer
sity of Oregon, Eugene. Later
this month Miss Bali will leave
for Ann Arbor, Mich., where
she has been awarded a library
service scholarship at the Uni
versity of Michigan for this com
ing year. Miss Bali will work in
the university library and at the
same time will study in the
library school. During her two
years at the University of Ore
gon she has worked in the
library there.
Miss Bali has completed re
quirements at the University of
Oregon for a bachelor of arts
degree in English. Before at-;
tending the university, she at-,
tended the Southern Oregon
College of Education at Ashland
for two years and is a graduate
of Medford high school. i

Zonta Club Hears
Convention Report
Zonta club held the regular
business meeting at the home of
its first president, Mrs. Margaret
Fabrick, on Crater Lakavenue,
Monday evening, with principal
business being the report of Mrs.
Effie Kurtz, delegate to Zonta
International convention recent
ly held in Chicago. Mrs. Kurtz
reported that Zonta now has
255 clubs of classifies executive
women, the total membership
of which is 4807. Inspiring talks
were given by members from

present for her final meeting
before leaving to reside else
where and she was presented
with a gift.
The business session was fol
lowed by discussions and music.

Picnic Supper Tonight
The Pythian club will meet at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.
L. Walden, 741 West McAndrews
road, this evening at 6:30 o'clock
for a picnic supper. Knights and
their ladies are invited. Club
members are reminded to bring
their own sen-ice and a card
table.

Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Mottner
and daughter are here from
Bremerton, Wash., to visit Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Mottner and fam
ily of Maple Park Drive. The
two men are brothers. The visi
tor is employed at the Bremer
ton navy yard and his brother is
manager of the Medford Rialto
theater.

Mrs. H. W. Crain of 1020 West

day afternoon at her home for
her house guests, Miss Leone
Baxter and Mrs. f. Preston Brad
ford of Santa Ana, Calif., and
her mother, Mrs. E. A. Meyers
of Portland, who is also a visitor
here.
Court whist was the diversion
of the afternoon and prizes went
to Mrs. Albert Kenyon, Mrs,
Jack Moad and Mrs. Merton Ly-
ster.

visitors last week were Mrs.
Fred Rehling, Mrs. Lyster and
Mrs. Leon Boomer,

honor of Mrs. William A. Hollo
way, Sr., who left this morning
to reside in Arizona. The lunch
eon was at Mrs. Wood's home,

Gray, Mrs. O. L. Overmeyer,
Mrs. Thomas Freed, Mrs. Merna
Frink and Mrs. Holloway, the
group all having been associated
in Eastern Star activities in the
county.
Church Group To Hold
All-Day Meeting Tuesday
An all-day meeting is planned
Tuesday for the Ladies Auxil
iary of the First Baptist church
at the church. Beginning at 9:30
a. m. the group will sew for the
White Cross and a prper sack
lunch will be served at noon. A
business meeting will be at two
o'clock. Worship on the subject
of "Possessors of Peace" will
be based on the Bible text John
16:33 and will be lead by Mrs. R.
Arnpld. Mrs. L. Knox will lead
the program on "Gifts for Home
Missions".
Hostesses for the meeting will
be the Mesdames Edwards, B.
Jackson and Wilder. Members
are asked to bring their mite
boxes to this meeting.
Group Leaves Today
For Deep Well Lodge
Mrs. William H. Fluhrer and
a group of friends are leaving
today for the Fluhrer summer
home, Deep Well Lodge, at Lake
o' Woods, and will remain for
a week. Spending the week at
the lodge will be Mrs. Bert L.

Alvin Wimer. Lt. and Mrs.
Wimer left Sunday for Albu
querque, N. M., after a brief
leave in Medford visiting rela
tives and friends. Lt. Wimer is
a pilot in the army air corps.

ant's parents, Mrs. Donald

terday for Buffalo, N. Y., wliere
she will remain Indefinitely. I
Miss Lovell will make her home
with a friend, Mrs. Thomas
Lewis, the former Ruth Hum

past several days a number of
Miss Lovell's friends have enter
tained with farewell parties for
her.

The state highway ruling no
longer permits the use of the
Coast highway by over-length
trucks anj trailers without flag
men. Ervin L. Peterson, state di
rector of agriculture, recently
announced.
Jenkins has assured stockmen
of the regular use of two trucks
for transporting the livestock
and said that others may be ar
ranged for later. To comply with
the highway regulations flag
men will go in advance of each
truck to warn approaching traf
fic of the long trucks and
trailers.

port director's office, Seattle, af
ter a 10-day stay at the home of
her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Wilson, Griffin Creek. Miss Wil
son was accompanied to Medford
by a friend, Mrs. Vivian Free
man of Portland and Mrs. Free
man's daughter, Morlene. who
were also guests of the Wilsons.
Miss Wilson has many friends
in the valley and during her
stay here a number of informal
social events were given for her
and Mrs. Freeman, who also
formerly lived here. Before go

son was on the staff of the
