THE FOREST FIRE
PREVENTION CREED
frgHERE is no question but that FIRE in the
forests is a form of sabotage and a serious
menace to our war effort .... LUMBER is
a critical war material, of vital necessity to waging
successful warfare. Many fires are started by
careless, unthinking Americans who pride them
selves upon their loyalty to the nation and support
of the war. Actually, they start more fires than
do avowed saboteurs and lightning. Isn't it time
that ALL citizens become "fire-conscious" and
lend full support to the all-important "Keep Oregon
Green" movement? A serious fire at this moment
would destroy precious war material divert need
ed manpower to the job of fire fighting, hamper
the entire prosecution of the war. The lasting
effect would jeopardize our payrolls and economic
welfare. We urge every man, woman and child
in this area to comply to the fullest with fire pre
vention laws and rules. We urge mill owners and
loggers to carefully check their fire hazards. Let
us ALL "Keep Oregon Green" and not forget that
every man-made fire is an enemy fire!

Nation. It't EVERYONE'S re
sponsibility. Be sure you make
it YOURS!
Will smoke In the woods ONLY while
halted in a safe place, completely
cleared of dry or inflammable material.
I Will break all burned matches In two
before I throw them away, and WILL
NEVER throw pipe tobacco, cigar butts
or cigarette stubs into brush, leaves or
pine needles.
I Will scrape away all inflammable ma
terial before building a camp fire, then
build it in a hole dug in the center of
this cleared space.
I Will put out camp fires before I leave
stir the coals while soaking them with
water; wet the ground around the fire;
make certain the last spark is dead.
I Will NEVER burn brush in windy
weather, or without plenty of help.
I Will put out any small fires I find, or
report them AT ONCE by phoning the
Ranger or Fire Warden.
I Will remember that' a burning match,
a glowing cigarette, or a smoldering
camp fire can be just as dangerous as
an incendiary bomb ... that careless
matches aid the Axis.
