The first step In the playoff
plan to decide the Medford-
Camp White Baseball league
championship will be taken to
day when the Craters collide
with the Station Hospital club
at the fairgrounds park In a
game beginning at 2:30.
Winner, of this game will meet
the league's third team, the
WPRC. for the pennant on July
23. WPRC travels to Klamath
Falls today to meet the U. S.
navy training school.
The veteran Steve Crippen,
Crater righthander, will tie up
again with Charlie Johnson of
no-hlt, no-run fame in an ex
pected tight pitching duel. The
last time they met the Craters
eked out a 6 to 5 victory, with
each of them fanning 11 batters.

Craters, 14 to 10, to deadlock
the series,

Seventy-five riders and ropers,
many of them world famous,
will take part in the third an
nual roduo and horse show
sponsored by the Jackson Coun
ty Sheriff's Posse at the fair
grounds park next Saturday
night and Sunday afternoon.
Among performers who Will
participate are Jerry Ambler of
Portland, Joe Menrics of Los
Angeles, Marlon Vincent of
Porterville, Al Skelton of Bak
ersfield, Gene Rnmbo of San
Luis Obispo, Earl Inks of Stock
ton, Jack Dalton of Redding,
Jack Conlon of Susanville, Mar
shall Flowers of Redding, Dutch
Martin of Modesto, Tom Bride of
Condon, Ore., and Jack Sherman
of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Mack Barbour of Klamath
Falls, who will furnish all the
stock for the rodeo, said there
would be 125 bucking horses,
Mexican steers and wild Brahma
bulls on hand to test the skill of
the performers. The rodeo will
have the same stock and many
of the riders and ropers who
performed in the "Buckaroo
Days" at Klamath Falls. Bar
bour will take his stock to Port
land for a seven-day show nt the
Multnomah county fairgrounds
August 15-22, and from there it
will be taken to the Pendleton
round-up.
All local riders and contes
tants arc invited to enter any
event on the two-day program.
There will be a downtown
parade starting at 7 p. m. Satur
day, and all participating horse
men and women will be ad
mitted free to the rodeo.
Performing in the arena, i
among other groups, will be the
sheriff's posse and auxiliary and
the Rogue Riders, trained by
Iris Dodge. They are composed
of girls interested in riding and
received high acclaim in the
Klamath Falls show.
Tex Baldrn, professional an
nouncer, will handle the pro
gram. Judges will be picked by
the cowboys.

ered the baseball executive "who
never made mistakes," must be
wondering tonight if Just once
in a lifetime he didn't permit a
major slip in judgment when he
elected to cast his lot with the
Brooklyn Dodgers instead of the
St. Louis Browns.
Rickey signed a five-year con
tract to direct the Dodgers at
$80,000 a year in 1942, and for
an executive who has lived un
der the dollar sign through most
of his baseball years, that was a
hard one to pass up.

thousand race fans packed into
the grandstand at North Randall
saw a spectacular fire destroy
five of the seven race barns at
the oval late today. '
Stable hand3 led more than
100 valuable horses to safety and
no one was injured. George Tip
ling, president of the Forest City
Livestock and Fair Co., which
built the track in 1908, estimat
ed damage at $50 000.
The blaze, its or'gin unknown,
broke out in a barn on the far
side of the track and, fanned by
a south wind, raced through the
other barns until all but two
were gutted.
TAXI CONSOLIDATION

on June 20, Public Utilities
Commissioner George H. Flagg
has approved consolidation of
the permits by which operations
of the Yellow Cab Company
and the Terminal Cab Company
will be conducted under man
agement of Warren B. Hamlin.
He is one of the owners of the
two companies.
It was shown by the testi
mony of such witnesses as H.
C. Skyrman, W. D. Plumley,
Earl C. Leever and of Mr. Ham
lin that a more economical and
efficient service can be ren
dered because of the merger. It
