district sales representative (or
the Oregon State Motor associa
tion, according to Walter C.
Findlay, In charge of member
ship for the association. Mrs.
Elsie Bashaw continues as dis
trict secretary in charge of serv
ice. C. E. "Pop" Gates of Medford
Is a director and vice-president
of the association.

membership activities for the as
sociation in Jackson and Jose-

ters at the association's branch
office, 133 North Riverside, in
Medford. The Oregon State
Motor association is affiliated
with the nation-wide American
Automobile association (AAA) so
that a member is entitled to the
same service and protection
throughout the nation as In the
state of Oregon. The association
will continue to write automobile
Insurance for Its members as it
has been doing the past few
years. Gribble said.
Mr. Gribble added that ex
pansion of the Medford office is
a first step in the state-wido pro
gram by the Motor association to
increase its membership and
service facilities to all areas in
the state, so that It will be pre
pared to handle the expected
postwar increase in motor travel.

sis vaccine which has given "en
couraging results" when tried on
mice was reported today in the
Journal of the American Medical

The vaccine Is made from
poliomyelitis virus, inactivated
by exposure to ultraviolet rays
from a newly developed lamp,

sistance to Inoculation into the
brain, according to Dr. Albert
Milzcr, Dr. Franz Oppcnheimer
and Dr. Sidney O. Levinson,

Hay baling Is also the order
of the day with not enough
balers available to do all the
custom baling. The second cut
ting of alfalfa Is now underway
In some sections. The first cut-'
ting of hay was damaged by June

Pre-Med Deferment
Is Refused by F.R.

President Roosevelt today re
fused to order a change in the
selective service ruling banning
deferment of pre-mcdlcal stu
dents beyond July 1, as he had
been asked to do by Rep. A. L.
Miller, R Neb.
Miller wrote the president on
June 18 asking that ho review
the no-deferment order affecting
pre-mcdical students. The presi-,
dent's reply said "the need of
the armed forces for young, I
vigorous men" is paramount. j
CCC Buying Wheat j
To Build Reserve
Washington, July 8 (U.R)
Commodity Credit Corp. Is con
tinuing to purchase wheat at cur
rent market prices to build up
government reserves as part of
the feed wheat program started
a year ago, officials said today.
CCC plans to sell 23,000,000
bushels of this went In deficit
feed areas during July. This
would reduce government stocks
to only a little mora than S0,
000,000 bushels.
