Tight Supply Of '
Truck, Bus Tires
Is ODT Warning
Commercial motor vehicle op
erators here were reminded by
the Office of Defense Transporta
tion to practice "rigorous tir
conservation measures" If they
want to "avoid severe curtail
ment of essential motor trans
port services."
Donald F. Call, district man
ager of the highway transport
department said that the "tight
supply" of heavy and medium
duty trurk and bus tires Is al
ready being felt by operators in
the Medford ODT area and he
urged operators whose equip
ment may be threatened with
"lay-up" to contact ODT at once.
Call said that Col. J. Monroe
Johnson, national ODT director,
had warned operators that there
will be a shortage of heavy and
medium duty truck and bus tires
for replacement purposes during
July, August and September,
and that third quarter tire allo
cations by the office of the rub
ber director, are "substantially
below requirements on 10-ply
and over tires In sizes 70020
and up."-
Colonel Johnson reported,
"The net effect is that the num
ber of tires available for replace
ment purposes during the third
quarter will exceed the second
quarter total by only about 10
per cent, while the normal sea
sonal increase In replacement de
mands between the second and
third quarter is at least 25."
