its, technique, rules necessary
to prevent contamination or in
fection of wound, region or sur
face are difficult If not impos
sible to understand and prac
tice unless you have some sci
entific knowledge of bacteriol
ogy and some professional
training In the bacteriological
laboratory or in the operating
room or the delivery room.
The use of "antiseptics" or
''germicides", particularly those
"powerful" nostrums having
color or odor calculated to im
press a child or a Wiseacre lay
man, has practically nothing to
do with asepsis or aseptic treat
ment. On the contrary, the
quack healer, the near-doctor,
the nurse who plays to all and
sundry who accept such "medi
cal" care, the druggist who does
riot hesitate to give medical ad
vice or service if the customer
looks dumb enough, these indi
viduals, armed with a danger
ous little knowledge really be
lieve that a liberal application
of some "powerful" antiseptic
or germicide is the best treat
ment in any emergency. They're
childlike faith in that quaint
theory, must be held responsi
ble for a great deal of unneces
sary suffering, illness and di
saster from infection, blood
poisoning, septicemia, ! faulty
healing, excessive scarring,
functional Impairment and crip
pling which asepsis would pre
vent. Some of the fundamental
principals' of asepsis are hard
for the novice to understand for
the very reason that they are so j
simple. They are, first, soap and

Last meeting of Roxy Ann 4-H
club was held June 28 at the
Lehman home in honor of Ver
non Lehman's birthday. Refresh
ments, served by Mrs. Lehman,
followed the business meeting.
There will be a steer fitting
contest July 12 and members
will be taught how to make blan
kets for tnelr stock.
'The club will visit the Ante
lope 4-H club on July 14 to get
some new ideas. A swimming
party Is planned for the evening
of July 18. Mothers and fath
ers are Invited and are to bring
a picnic supper.
The club will hold its second
annual community fair on Aug
ust 9. On the eats committee
are Carmen Chase, Phyllis
Wooldrldge and Betty LllUe.
