Technicolor Musical
Music, Drama At Rialto.
A gay and tuneful musical,
gtar-studded with fine entertain
ment, is to be found at the Cra
terian theatre today, Monday

color comedy, "Broadway
Rhythm," is playing. George
Murphy co-stars with lovely
Ginny Simms, radio's favorite
ginging sweetheart, making her
screen debut in Technicolor.
Loaded with lilting tunes,
plus the music of Tommy Dor
sey and his orchestra, "Broad
way Rhythm" is the story of a
successful Broadway producer
who hits a snag in his career
when he decides to go "arty"
and a hitch in his romantic plans
when the Hollywood star, play
ed by Ginny Simms, determines
to produce a play on her own
with the cooperation of Mur
phy's father and kid sister.
George Murphy, fresh from
his triumph in "This Is the
Army" and "Bataan," is happily
cast as the producer and his role
gives him opportunity to sing
and dance, and watching Mr.
Murphy sing and dance is any
moviegoer's pleasure. Ginny
Simms, in her first major movie
role, reveals a pretty face and
figure and an ability to handle
a speaking role with distinction.
Topping the twin-bill at the
rialto for today, Monday and
Tuesday is "Hot Rhythm", with
Dona Drake. "Two Man Subma
rine", a thriller starring Tom
Neal and Ann Savage, completes
the Rialto's holiday program.

PRINCE'S KISS ON

Prince David Mdivani. wealthy
man about town, kissed a lady's
hand at Mocambo night club last
night, and thereby started a fistic
battle equal to any staged at the
exclusive habitat of film st&rs
and socialites.
The hand belonged to lovely
Irish Actress Marianne O'Brien
and the fist that hit the prince
was that of her escort, Bert
Friedlob. also wealthy and also
of the film city.
According to Friedlob. Prince
Mdivani approached the table
where he was seated with Miss
O'Brien, and without introduc
tion kissed the .lady's hand.
"I have been looking for a elrl
to dance with me," the prince
said. "Will you dance with me?"
Friedlob answered for Miss
O'Brien with an emphatic "No."
The prince talked back and soon
the exchange of words turned to
an exchange -of blows.
Curtis Hopkins Is
Lieutenant In AAF
Lt. Curtis E. Hopkins, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Hopkins
of the Old Military Road, was
graduated yesterday from the
Army Air Forces Bombardier
School of Deming, New Mexico.
The exercises took place July 1
on the Parade Grounds.
Hopkins attended Medford
schools and was a popular mem
ber of his class which graduated
from Medford high in 1942. He
starred in football and was on
the track squad while In high
school.

lic utility employes under mili

strike in sympathy with striking

tain constitutional guarantees by

Roxy Theater To
Close Five Weeks
The Roxy Theatre will be
closed, effective today, for the
next five weeks, re-opening
again August 6, according to an
announcement yesterday by E.
L. Childers.
New projection room equip
ment will be installed while the
theatre is closed and minor al
terations will be made in other
parts of the theatre.
WIFE IS GUILTY
El Centro, Cal., July 1 (U.R)
Mildred Forsythe Skelton, 19, to
day was found guilty of second
degree murder for throwing her
10-month-old daughter into the
Colorado river. A jury of six
men and six women returned the
verdict after three hours of de
liberation. Mrs. Skelton was accused of
tossing little Mildred Louise in
to the river near Wlnterhtven,
Cal., to "hurt" Cpl. Robert Moll,
with whom she had been living
as common-law wife.
She said Mell was the baby's
father and that he had refused
to marry her after asking her to
come to his station at Yuma,
Ariz., from her home in St.
Louis, Mo.
On Furlough Sgt. Marc Jar-
min, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marc
B. Jarmin of 23 Corning Court,
will be home on furlough to
morrow from Camp Swift, Tex.
Jarmin, a graduate of Medford
high, attended Oregon State col
lege where he was affiliated
with the Phi Gamma Delta fra
ternity before, entering the serv
ice. .
Brown Leave Pfc. Bob
Brown left Friday after a visit
In Medford with his wife, who
resides at 723 Bennett street,
and his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Brown, 315 Ashland avenue.
Pfc. Brown has been stationed
at Camp Hale, Colo., but has
been transferred to Camp Swift,
Tex. He is with the 87th Moun
tain Infantry.
Daughter Born Word has
been received here of the birth
in Portland Thursday of a daugh
ter, weighing five pounds 15
pounds, to Mr. and Mrs. Emory
Culbertson. Mrs. Culbertson, the
former Pauline Rogers, is the
daughter of City Superintendent
and Mrs. Frank Rogers. Mr. Cul
bertson, a pilot for United Air
Lines, is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
T. A. Culbertson.

regular semi-monthly meetings
at the Medford armory Tuesday
evening, July 4, at 8 p. m. At this
time, reports of the delegates to
the encampment recently held

freshments will follow the busi
ness meeting and a most cordial

bers of the V. F. W. who may
now be stationed at Camp White

Moving Shop Frank J. Huber
is moving his tailoring shop from
31 North Fir street to his home
on Barncburg Road1. Mr. Huber
has been engaged in the tailoring
business here since his arrival
25 years ago. He has occupied
the store on Fir street for 11
years. He will continue in the
tailoring business at his home.
Student Leaves Lawrence
Wilson left Thursday for Carrol
college, Helena, Mont., where he
will begin training under the
navy's V-5 aviation program. He
enlisted in March and received
orders a few days ago to report
July 1. The young man, who was
a member of the 1944 graduation
class of Medford senior high
school, is the son of Mrs. Helen
Holt Wilson and a grandson of
Dr. and Mrs. W. W. P. Holt, who
reside at 11 Corning Court.
