where she goes to Ft. Des Moines,
la., for training in the Air Wacs.
Mrs. Lalng's husband is a flight
officer in the air corps and is at
present serving as instructor in
a glider school in Sicily. Mrs.
Laing enlisted In the Women's
Army corps through the Klamath
Fall, recruiting station, having!
recently spent considerable time
there with her mother.
The Laings lived here for
many years, Mr. Laing having
worked with the California-Ore-'
gon Power company and with
the Foster-Kleiser company, and

Appointment of Wayne Jami
son as chairman of the Jackson
county salvage committee was
announced today by Frank Hull,
coordinator of the county civilian
defense council.

county salvage post due to the
pressure of other business and
civic matters.
. In announcing the appoint
ment, Hull also disclosed that
plans are now being formulated
by the new county chairman, in
cooperation with the Medford
Chamber of Commerce, to set up
continuous collection facilities
for both waste paper and tin
cans In the Medford area.
Lack of storage facilities has
prevented the- organization of
such a program in the past but
this bottleneck has now been
broken, clearing the way for
much needed collection pro
grams, the coordinator said. '
During the last two days
Jamison has been laying the
groundwork for a tin can drive
to be staged in the Medford area
in the Immediate future. Friday
he conferred with G. E. Greene,
chairman of the Ashland salvage
committee, and was assured that
Ashland will arrange a tin drive
to coincide with Medford's as
soon as definite dates for the col
lection can be assured. With the
cooperation of the two cities and
all suburban communities of the
county It is expected that at
least one full carload of cans
may be collected and shipped to
the detinning plant at South San
Francisco.
Definite announcements as to
dates and collection procedures
for both paper and cans will be
forthcoming soon, Jamison re
ported. Meanwhile, all residents
of the city and county are urged
to continue saving all tin cans
and waste paper for the war ef
fort. Cans should be properly
prepared washed, labels re
moved, tops and bottoms cut out
and the cans flattened firmly by
stepping on them full weight.
Newspapers, magazines and
cardboard cartons should be
segregated and tied securely in
bundles for easy handling. Waste
basket paper is not being asked
for in Oregon due to lack of
baling facilities.

secretary of the State Salvage
Committee, Portland, was a vis-
ltor in Medford and Ashland
Thursday and Friday of this
week, assisting local salvage of
ficials in organizing summer col
lection plans.
