they will suffer another loss, to
day welcomed the arrival of four
night games with the Washing
ton Senators.
Champions of the world, and
once so powerful that the Amer
ican league was jestingly called
the "Yankee league." the New
Yorkers, whose night record last
season was the best in the cir
cuit, reasoned that they couldn't
do much worse than they have

the Yanks have played 17 games

Medford high's 1944 Black
Tornado football team has been
invited to face Nampa, (Idaho)
high in the annual Lettuce Bowl
gridiron classic at Nampa on
Oct. 13.
The invitation was tendered
Coach-Elect Al Simpson by
Jerry Dellinger, Nampa men
tor, at the football and basketball-coaching
school at Utah
State College, Logan, Utah, last
week.
Whether the invitation will
be accepted depends largely on
whether Medford can move up
one week its date with Eureka
high, Simpson said. The new
Tornado coach said he planned
to confer with Medford school
officials this week, and if .the
green light is given to accept
ance, to contact Eureka on the
date switch.
As the Medford schedule now
stands, the Tigers are slated to
travel to Eureka on Oct, 13.
However, they have an open
date a week earlier, on Oct. 6.
The Lettuce Bowl is Idaho's
top prep football game every
year. Last season Nampa in
vited East high of Salt Lake
City, the game ending in a 6
to 6 tic before a crowd of 6,500
persons.

Francisco Seals edge into first
place for a few days, were pre

leading Portland Beavers and
the Oakland Acorns.
The Oaks, second from the
bottom in league standings,
came from behind to win a
series from the second place
Seattle Rnlniers, 4-3, after los
ing the first game of Sunday's
doubleheader, 4-2, and winning
the second, 2-1.
