Tex. Captain Jones Is the son of
Mrs. K. G. Jones, Richmond,
Va., and was stationed at Camp
White for several months, leav
ing here in April for Texas.
Miss Carpenter graduated
from the University of Oregon
this year, finishing her course at
mid-term in order to enter the
women's branch of the Army
Air Force. She is now at Aven
ger Field, Texas, for training.
No date has been set for the
wedding. The Carpenter home Is
on the Old Stage Road.
Sewing Chairman
Is Given Party

Army wives, who sew each
Wednesday at the Officers' Out
post on Sixth street for the Red
Cross, followed the sewing ses-
sion last week with a dessert
and bridge party for the pleasure
of - Mrs. Horace Buchan, who
leaves this week to spend the
summer in Los Angeles with
relatives. Mra.v Buchan has been
serving as sewing chairman for
the gToup for several months
past. Her husband, Capt. Buchan
has gone to Duke university for
a special course in army finance
which will last several weeks.
Mrs. W. K. Ostler and a com
mittee of assistants were in
charge of the affair. Mrs. Bu
chan was presented with a gift.

group were present.

State Convention
Reports Presented
At Lodge Meeting
Reports of the recent state
meeting of the Rebekah lodge,
the 98th annual session, were
made at the meeting of Olive
Rebekah lodge Monday night.
Mrs. Ina Huson, a delegate, was
given Ihe Degree of Chivalry
during the state meeting, and
she reported upon this honor,
conferred for outstanding serv
ice to the lodge.
It was announced that Mrs.
Lottie Cave has been appointed
district deputy president of Olive
Rebekah lodge and Mrs. Cave
told of her visit to the I. O. O. F.
home and of a visit to the home
of Mrs. Carrie Rirkert Morand.

station and In Los Angeles
planned a tour of the Lockheed
plant. The two will return
early next week.

Honors Members
Thursday Night
Five members of Reames
chapter No. 68, O.E.S., were
honored during the social hour
which followed the stated com
munication Thursday evening of
last week. Honored were Mrs.
Roy J. Miles, whose wedding
was a recent event, and Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Strang and Mr. and
Mrs. William Holloway, both
couples having celebrated their
silver wedding anniversaries
this week. Mrs. Miles is the for
mer Audrey Price.
The honored guests were
seated at a specially decorated
table, the centerpiece being of
pink and silver and featuring a
large wedding ring fashioned
of silver and tiny rose buds,
and miniature figures of a sol
dier and bride. Lighted tapers
had similar silver rings and rose
buds at their bases. Flowers doc
orated the remaining tables
from which refreshments were
served and tall baskets of as
sorted blossoms had been ar
ranged at either end of the chap
ter room for the meeting. ,
The committee on decorations
and arrangements consisted of
Mrs. Hope Wood, worthy ma
tron, Elton Waldron, worthy
patron, Mrs. Waldron and Mrs.
Bertha Morse.
A program of informal talks
and songs was dedicated to the
honored guests, and Mrs. Miles
was presented with a number of
gifts. Mrs. Strang and Mrs. Kol
loway were presented with co
lonial bouquets, encircled with
hand cocheted frills, which had
been made by Mrs. Wood.

The W.C.T.U. held a well
attended local Institute in the
Salvation Army hall Thursday
of last week, preceded by des
sert luncheon at noon. Dr. Susie
V. Standard presided at the
afternoon meeting, which op
ened with a devotional talk by
Major Nettle Brown who based
her message on the 61st Psalm.
The work of five departments
was presented during the pro
gram. Mrs. Minnie Bryant told
of the child welfare work, which

Miss Joan Edler of Trail and
Alva Wright, Prospect, were
married June 1, the rites taking
place here at the home of the
Rev. Ward A. Rice. The bride is
the daughter of Mrs. Harold E.
Gist, S38 Haven street, Medford,
and of F. E. Edler, Trail, while
the groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Kelly Wright of Prospect
The service was read at two
o clock by the Rev. Rice.
For the service Miss Edler,
given In marriage by her father,
wore a gown of white satin and
a fingertip veil. Her flowers
were talisman roses and sweet
peas. She was attended by her
sister, Mrs. William L. Hull of
Medford ,who wore a dress of
pale green net.
Warren Wright of Prospect
was best man.
Following the service a recep
tion was held at the Gist home
and later Mr. and Mrs. Wright
left for Lake o' Woods where
they spent a few days. They are
now making their home in
Prospect where the groom is an
employee of the California-Oregon
Power company. Both grad
uated from Prospect high school
with the class of 1943.

Board To Meet Tuesday
Report of the recent conven
tion of the Oregon League of
Women Voters will be given at
a meeting of the Jackson Coun
ty league board which will be
held Tuesday night of next week
at the home of the president,
Mrs. Justin Smith, 21 Geneva
street. The reports will be given
by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Leonard
Carpenter.
Mrs. Smith will also discuss
new national by-laws and will
read a message from the new
national president, Miss Anna

Mrs. Johnson Returns
After Seattle Visit
Mrs. F. H. Johnson has re
turned home from a visit of two
months in Seattle at the home
of her son-in-law and daughter,
the Rev. and Mrs. Leonard
Brown. The Johnsons, who re
cently sold their home on East
Main street to Mr. and Mrs.

Honored Guests
At Dinner Party
A dinner in the small dining
room of the Holland Hotel Tues
day night honored members of
the last graduating class of Red
Cross nurses aides, the gradu
ates all being young women who
just completed their senior year
at Medford senior high 6chool
and who carried the Red Cross
class and work schedule in addi
tion to their hish school studies
and activities. The new hospital
aides are the Misses Doris Bab
cock, Betty Jane Johnson, Joan
Elliott, Peg?y Young, Virginia
Hammond, Mary Glascock and
Harriet Hart.
In charge of the dinner was
Mrs. T. R. Florey, captain of the
Nurses Aide corps, assisted by
Mrs. Paul Bulkin, Mrs. Rodney
Fety and Miss Vera Humphrey.
The committee had arranged
unusually attractive room and
table decorations for the affair,
using flags of the allied nations
and a large Red Cross flag
against the walls of the room.
Large baskets of red roses, ar
ranged with blue candles, deco
rated the tables and completing
the centerpiece were a doll,
wearing a nurses aide uniform,
and a miniature cradle. Place
cards were' little aide figurines
and each graduate was presented
a favor and a corsage from the
corps, Mrs. Fety having made
the corsages.
Highlight of the program was
the capping ceremony, conduct
ed by Mrs. Don Newbury, chair
man of the corps, and Mrs. C. M.
Starnes, who instructed the
class, presented the members
with their aide pins. Speaking
during the program, Mrs. Fred
Rankin, Red Cross executive
secretary, welcomed the young
women into Red Cross work, de
claring the nurses aide work to
be one of the most useful types
carried on by volunteers during
the war. Mrs. Alfred S. V. Car
penter, chairman of the special
service corps, praised the nurses
aide corps and its outstanding
leadership and Mrs. Blanche
Frisbie of the Jackson County
Health department stated that
plans were being made for using
the aides in the department's
well baby clinius. Various aides
also spoke.
Present for the dinner, cap
ping ceremony and program in
addition to the graduates and
speakers were Miss Anne Pur

ing next week for navy train

was at Rupp's restaurant in Cen
tral Point. During the evening

Mr. and Mrs. Caton have been
making their home in Ashland
for the past two weeks and Mrs.
Caton and the children will re
main there for the duration of

at the Outpost Friday noon was
given for Mrs. Jack Meyer by
members of the Red Cross staff
assistants' corps. Mrs. Meyer,
who has been serving as a sec
retary in' the chapter office, has
resigned. The affair also hon
ored Mrs. Frank Hall, secretary
to Mrs. Fred Rankin of the chap
ter staff, who has left Medford
due to the transfer of her hus
band. Lt. Hall, to Ft. Scott, San
Francisco.
The luncheon was planned by
Mrs. John Day, chairman of the
corps, assisted by Mrs. Fred Fry,
Mrs. W. P. Gammill and Mrs.
W. C. Kindred. About 20 staff
assistants, chapter officers and
service chairmen attended the
affair.
Mrs. Meyer was presented
with a shower of gifts and Mrs.
Hall with a farewell present.
