and ration board has issued a
statement to the effect that

Hull, manager of the chamber,
stated that numerous persons
had pointed out to the Cham
ber of Commerce the fact that
delays of one and two days
often result before bus space
to Dunsmuir could be obtained
and that the present bos serv
ice connecting with southbound
Southern Pacific trains is In
adequate to handle this traffic.
Mr. Hull asked the board to
investigate the possibility of
obtaining permission to issue
supplemental gasoline to citi
zens wishing to travel south.
Replying to Mr. Hull, Leon
ard Carpenter, chairman of the
board, stated: "Concerning spe
cial gasoline for travel because
of Inadequate bus and rail serv
ice between Medford and all
points south, special travel gaso
line may be granted for only a
very few specific purposes and
then only where there is proof
of a lack of adequate alternate
services. I have taken up with
the gasoline panels of the board
the question of what can be
considered "adequate service
and it is evident that with the
heavy load imposed by Camp
White, plus the local needs, -this
region is very severely handi
capped and that some relief
should be given.
"Applicants with legitimate
reasons for such a special allow-
ai.ee should consider carefully
that In using their cars 'or this
purpose they will automatically
reduce their chances of ever
receiving any new tires or tubes.
"Applications should be made
on Form OPA R-552 for special
gasoline with reasons for the
trip. Only those will be granted
to make train, connections for
the south at Klamath Falls or
Dunsmuir."

A $1,000,000 fire, accompanied
by explosions felt seven miles
away, swept through a factory
manufacturing bomb casings
last night, and firemen still
were fighting the blaze today.
Flames, fed by magnesium,
leaped more than 100 feet Into
the air, illuminating the sky
over the entire vicinity.
Officials said no one was
killed or injured.
