Harbor Dec 7, 1941, the Amer
ican problem was one of repair

building installations, of getting
new fiphting planes to take the
place of Hickam's chared fusi
lages.
Fleet Has Grown
A new problem arose late this
summer. Taxed to capacity by
new warships. Pearl Harbor Just
wasn't big enough to hold ca;
riers, cruisers, destroyers, sub
marines and auxiliaries coming
from the mainland.
On the second anniversary of
. the attack a "military success"
under a diplomatic umbrella
the United Slates has laid its
stepping stones to Tokyo and
already has commenced setting
Its feet down upon them. Naval
' authorities make no secret of
the fact that Tarawa and Makin
axe the forerunners of more im
portant battles.

Naval officers don't want any
"Pearl Harbor Day" celebra
tions. They will remember it
as long as they live, but with-
out fanfare. One officer suggest- :
ed that when the war is over
congress set aside Dec. 7 annu
ally to "examine the sUta of the
nation's defense, interrogate our
naval and military leaders and
study our relations witli other
nations. '
On this anniversary, no inves
