Issuance of ration book 4 to
the Medford public began at
12:30 today In all elementary
school gymnasiums with tha fol
lowing ichedule: Thursday,
1130 to 8:30 p. m. peraons
wboaa namea begin with letten
A to H Inclusive; Friday, 9 a.
m. to 12 noon persons whose
names begin with letters I to M
Inclusive; Friday, noon to 8:30
p. m. persons whose names be
gin with letters N to Z inclusiva.
Persons who are not able to
conform to this schedule will be
accepted at any other time. The
school district serve tha same
territory for rationing as they
do for school purposes.
Lone Pine and Dewey dis
tricts will be rationed at Roose
velt school; Grif2in Creek and
Independence at Washington;
North Phoenix and Kenwood at
Lincoln, and West Side at the
Jackson.
It was stressed again by
ration authorities that patrons
must bring their book 3 as no
' book 4 may ba Issued except to
tha holder of a book 3. Book 3
is not surrendered by the appli
cant, but he receives it back
with "book 4" written on the
lower right hand corner. There
will ba no tailoring of books
and no declaration of foods. The
rationing period In the schools
closes Friday, 6:30 p. m.
ICE ARENA OPENS
SEASON TONIGHT
Tha grand opening of the
Medford Ice Arena on Grape
street for the 1043 and '44 sea
son will be held tonight. Denny
Edge, manager of the arena, an
nounced today that the opening
night skating session will be ex
tra long, from 7:30 p. m. to 11
p. m. Tha arena will ba open
regularly daily after the open
ing night, with skating sessions
from 7:45 p. m. to 10:15 p. m.,
and Saturday and Sunday mat
inees from 2:30 p. m. to B p. m.
A special skating session will
ba held tomorrow from 2:30 p.
m. to 5 p. m., for school children
dismissed from classes while
teachers are handling registra
tions for ration book number 4.
The coffee shop at the arena
will ba open tonight and overy
evening thereafter under the di
rection of Miss Beth Livingston
and Miss Helen Kendall. Dick
Fredrick Is In charge of making
tea and patroling the ice during
sessions, while Volney Brock
has charge of the skate room
and sales In that department.
NAVY RECRUITER
The wartime expansion of the
V. 8. navy was the subject of a
brief address before the Medford
Rotary club Tuesday by Herb
Crane, recruiting Specialist here.
Crane pointed out the grow
ing might of the fleets now rang
ing over the five oceans after
tracing the origin and signifi
cance of Navy day. He was in
troduced by Mark Goldy, Rotary
program chairman.
Following this address a mo
tion picture was shown, dealing
with aviation developments In
the navy. The official navy
film was shown by Stanley
Jones, California Oregon Power
company technician.
