critic. Dr. W.' F. Roney spoke on

F. J. Moffat talked on "Friend
ship" and R. C. Claypool spoke
on "Pidgin' Enelish."

Overseas Second Lieutenant
Clyde (Bus) Chamberlain, cargo
security officer in the army
transport supply service, is now
overseas, according to word re
ceived from him by his wife,
who is making her home with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Purdin, 335 West Holly street.
Lt. Chamberlain was formerly

his commission in New Orleans,

In School Miss Hazel Oliver,
daughter of Louis Oliver, 415
Woodstock Ave., has entered her
senior year as a student in the
Multnomah School of the Bible,
an interdenominational Bible
school, in Portland. Miss Oliver
was employed by the Southern
Oregon Credit Bureau of this
city for several years following
her graduation from Medford
high school. She is a member of
the Federated Church of Central
Point, where she held the posi
tion of secretary-treasurer of the
Sunday school for a number of
years. Miss Oliver left for Port
land two years ago to enter Bible
school to prepare for Christian
work.

Promoted Staff Sgt. Charley
E. Conaway of Medford has been
promoted to the grade of tech
nical sergeant, according to an
nouncement from an Alaskan
base. Sgt. Conaway was em
ployed by Pruitt's Music-Radio
Center prior to his enlistment in
the army. Inducted at Vancou
ver, Wash., March 4, 1941. Sgt.
Conaway received his basic train
ing at McChord Field. Wash..
upon completion of which he at
tended an army technical school
at Scott, Field, III. After com
pleting the course he was as
signed to duty as -a radio me
chanic and for the past year he
has been stationed In Alaska,
where his present assignment is
the post of chief clerk in ' the
base technical inspector's office.
His brother. Master Sgt. Claire
L. Conaway, also is, in the arm v
air corps and is stationed at
Clarksville, Tenn.

James D. (Don) Monteith, for

sioned a second lieutenant in the ,
coast artillery corps after com
pleting the officer candidato
course at the Anti-Aircraft Ar
tillery school, Camp Davis, N.
c, last week, according to an
announcement from the school.
He Is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Wallace J. Monteith, 531 Pearl

course in radio at the U. S. Naval
Armory, Chicago, 111., were Nor

training In primary radio ma
terial school will qualify them
as radio specialists in the U. S.

Lovejoy is in Medford from
Camo Gordon, Ga to visit his
family. Major and Mrs. Lovejov
returned Saturday from a visit
with their daughter. Miss Jerri
lee Lovejoy, a freshman at the
University of Oregon at Eugene.
The major, who has been in the
army more than two years, re
turns to Georgia shortly. Major
Lovejoy is owner of the Mode
O'Day stores, numbering six, in
southern and eastern Oregon and
northern California. The Love-
