Births In Jackson county dur
ing September numbered 114, an
all-time high figure. The previ
ous high was 95 births for the
month of June. Of the 114 births
In September, 58 were female
and 56 males.
Deaths registered In the -coun-1
ty during September numbered
32. Nine were due to heart and
circulation disorders, seven were
accidental, six were due to cere
bral hemorrhage, .three were
early Infancy deaths and three
were due to cancer and tumor.
Two deaths were caused by res
piratory system diseases, one
person died of diabetes and one
death was due to epidemic men
ingitis. Dr. A. Erin Merkel, director
of the Jackson county health de
partment, points out that 21
deaths due to accidents repre
sent over 20 per cent of the
county's deaths for the last three
months, which he terms a ' stag
gering and alarming" figure,
