John Tamas, 62, a keeper at tho
Cleveland zoo, made one false
move today while changing
cages of wild animals and It
cost him his life.
Zoo officials said Tamas failed
to lock a five-year-old leopard
outside the Vsafe area" where
keepers generally stay whila
changing the animals from, one
cage to another.
The leopard leaped at Tamas.
ripping his throat about 20 times
before it coult be beaten off with
a steel pole by other zoo em
ployes. Tamas bled to death en route
to a hospital. Officials said
Tamas was shifting the animal
without notifying his superiors.
