given at the meeting of the Med
ford Toastmaster's club held
Monday evening at the Jackson
hotel. Mllo M. Ross spoke on
"Juvenile Delinquency" and D.
D. Davis on "Did We Do Right?"
Dr. F. J. Moffatt presided as
toastmaster of the evening. The
Jackson hotel has been selected
as the new meeting place of the
organization.

Leaves For Kansas L. D.
Hodgklns left Monday night for
Baxter Springs, Kan., to accom
pany the body of his mother,
Anna Dale Hodgkins, there for
interment. Mrs. Hodgkins, who
had made her home here with
her son for the past 11 years,
died Saturday at the age of 91
years. Mr. Hodgkins, who has
not visited in Baxter Springs,
his former home, for 16 years,
plans to remain there about a
month.

Hagen Here Bill C. Hagen,
seaman second class, arrived In
Medford Tuesday morning from
the naval training station at Far
ragut, Ida., for a two-weeks
furlough. He was accompanied
home from Portland by Mrs. Ha
gen, who went north last Fri
day to meet her husband.
Burdett Promoted Mr. and
Mrs. E. T. Burdett, 327 West
Eighth street, have received
word of the promotion of their
son, Tommie, to first class avia
tion metalsmith In the navy. H?
has been In the navy two years
and is stationed in Hawaii. Bur
den's brother, Charles Robert
Burdett, Is also stationed in Ha

COASTAL STORMS
Seaside, Ore., Oct. 13 (U.B
Storms on the Oregon coast
were known today to have taken
the lives of three fishermen with
the recovery of a body washed
ashore here and identified as
Arthur Cannon, 60, of Reeds-
port
The pilot house and fishing
gear of Cannon's tuna boat had
washed ashore at Camp Catsop
yesterday.
Two other fishermen, Earl R.
Olsen of Burns, found drowned
aboard hit boat and Jess Oldon
washed overboard from his craft
at sea, were other storm fatali
ties.
