December, 1942, by resolution,
initiate proceedings to vacate
that aald Street and Alley In the
City of Medford, described as
follows:
All of that part of Mary Place
Street commencing at its
Intersection with the West
line of Summit Avenue and
running thence Westerly
alorfl the South line of Block
3 Mary Place Addition, to the
Westerly line thereof, and
that certain Alley' along the
West side of said Block 3 from
Mary Place Street to Clark
Street, all as the same appears
on the official plat of Mary
Place Addition filed in the
Office of the County Clerk of
Jackson County. Ore..
and did provide for a public
hearing to be held at the hour,
of 7:30 o'clock P. M. on the ini

Annual Meeting
The Rogue River Jersey Cat
tle Club will meet in the court
house suditorlum, Saturday,
January 2, at 1:30 p. m. This
club ia composed of Jersey
breeders of Jackson and Jose
phine counties and la very ac
tive. Ted Warren, fleldman foi
the American Jersey Cattle Club
will be present and all Jersey
breeders and anyone interested
in Jersey cattle are invited to
attend.
Farm Machinery Quotas
Sat for Next Yew
The Jackson county farm ma
chinery rationing committee has
received the quotas on some
types of farm machinery for
1943. These quotas are very
small and unless they are raised
by the administration through
increased manufacturing and re
lease of farm equipment, farm
ers are going to be severely cur
tailed in operations for the com
ing year. The following la a list
of machinery alloted to this
county:
Seven tractors, wheel type;
one grain drill; five Moldboard
Tr, D. or mounted plows; one
disc plow; four spring tooth har
rows; three spike tooth harrows;
six disc harrows; two tractor
mounted or drawn cultivators:
one manure spreader; five farm
wagons; two hammer mills;
three horsed rawn mowers; five
tractor drawn mowers; three
dump rakes, four aide delivery
raxes, uiree sweep rakes; one
stacker; one loader; one j-foot
or leas combine.

snd they already exceed the
quotas alloted for the county.

very little machinery was pur
chased as many farmers were
unable financially to invest in
new equipment. Now, however,
with more money available
there is a great demand for re
placements for worn-out equip
ment and the chances for obtain
ing It are very alender. With

Mobilisation Set
Oregon's mobilization of farm
resources for the tough 1943
food production job will start
with a statewide observance of
Farm Mobilization Day, ag pro
claimed by the President for
January 12. Governor Charles
A. Sprague has issued a similar
proclamation, and leaders of
state farm groups and civic
clubs, newspapers and radio sta
tions sre supporting the observ
ance. During the week follow
ing Mobilization Day, commun
ity meetings to acquaint farm
ers with all phases of the pro
duction program will be held in
many counties, leading up to
the every-farmer canvass later
in January.

Alternatives Given
For Whipping Cream
Each day more and more of
our regular daily foods are be
coming harder to get. Whipping
cream lg one of the most recent
to be removed from the consum
ers' list. Aa with other foods the
smart housewife is using suit
sble alternates. Try soma of
these suggestions.
1. Commercial cream or cof
fee cream of 19 per cent butter
fat that has been kept In the
coldest part of the refrigerator
for two daya has been success
fully whipped. Whip It in a cold
bowl Immediately after taking
irom ine refrigerator.
2. Cream carefully removed
from the top of 4 per cent milk
has been successfully whipped.
The milk had been in the coldest
part of the refrigerator for two
days. Care was taken not to mix
milk with the cream.
Cream can be removed from
a bottle with special ladle
made for that purpose. Whole
milk can also be poured Into
a bowl or pan, allowed to stand
and the cream aklmmed off with
B tablespoon without mixing it
with milk.

stand up as long as whipped
cream, but can be rewhlpped the
next day if kept refrigerated.
Whipped canned milk has
more stability U prepsred as fol
lows: Heat it to scalding point over
boiling water In a double boiler.
Cool. Chill In refrigerator over
night
Whip. Do not remove scum

pared by this method makes a
good basis for refrigerator type
ox cnocoiate ice-cream.
One-half teaspoon gelatin may
be soaked five minutes in two
teaspoons cold water and added
to one cup evaporated milk be
fore scalding. Gelatin aids sta
bility. Hew To Stretch
Butter Supply
With rising costs and possible
shortage of supply, many thriftv
nomemakera who do not make
their own butter may welcome
wis suggestion for stretching a
pound of butter to two pounds,
This recipe uses gelatin and the
resulting spread retains its
liquid and good flavor In a ten
day trial. It Is lighter In texture
and In color than butter. It
can be used as a spread on
bread, toast biscuits, waffles,
vegetables, etc., and In certain
recipes such ss poultry stuffings,
scrambled eggs, and apple betty.
It is not suggested Indiscrimi
nately for baking, unless the
recipes have been adjusted. It
Is not very satisfactory for fry
ing or greasing pans.
Method
1 tablespoon plain granulated
gelatin
W cup cold water or milk
1 pound good butter
1 pint cold, fresh milk or 1

warm water. Break butter into
pieces and cream it. Soften It
without melting. Hold gelatin
container in hot water and stir
until thoroughly dissolved.
When butter is smooth and
creamy, add aalt and gradually
whip in gelatin and milk. A ta
blespoon, slatted spoon, Dover
egg beater or electric mixer may
be used. If the milk blends very
slowly with the butter, heat the
bowl a little more. If the mix
ture becomes too soft snd thin,
cool the bowl somewhat by re
moving It from the warm water.
Butter coloring may be added If
desired.
When thoroughly beaten and
smooth, pour into a loaf pan
that has been lined with wax
paper or a butter mold, and
chill. Store in a cool place, cov
ered tightly with wsx psper or
butter parchment

Roxy Ann Livestock Club held
their monthly meeting at the
home of Mrs. L. S. Lehman,
leader of the club, on December
19. After the business meeting
the club held a Christmas party
and the members exchanged
presents. All members were pres
ent except Phyllis wooldrldge,
who had the mumps. Next meet
ing will be Jsnusry 30, at 2
p. m., at the home of James Hlg-

The Grange
Phoenix Orange
Phoenix Grange was host to
20 soldiers from Camp White on
Tuesday night The evening was
spent In games, square 'dances
and lively marches. A large
group of the Grange members
were present to entertain the
guests. The games were led by
Olive Floyd, Mable Quacken
bush, Ray Ward, Zelpha Arm
strong, assisted by George Arm
strong and Vaughn Quacken
bush. Mildred Ward waa pianist
for dsnces, drills snd marches.

Mrs, L. O. Caster, chairman, had
charge of refreshments, and
witlt assistance of some of the
men members of the Grange
served sandwiches, coffee, and
pickles to all present
Each guest was called on to
Introduce himself, and tall what
state he was from. Many states
were represented. Both guests
and Grangers declared It
profitable evening, and hoped
for more In the future.
