Msgr. John A. Ryan, director of
the department of social action
of the National Catholic Wel
fare Conference of Washington,
declared here today that a Re
publics. i victory in 1944 and a
subsequent coalition with De
mocratic reactionaries would
bring a disastrous decline" for
wage earner.
Speaking before the conven
tion of the American Catholic
Soc illogical Society, Msgr. Ryan
declared that the "champions of
free enterprise" must be (topped
from gaining control of recon
structed capiieuiit order after
the war.
"So long, however, a the
present occupant of the White
House remain then, no fear
need be entertained for the
cause of labor, or the cauia ot
social Justice," he declared.
He attacked the national as-
(oeiatlon of manufacturer,
metropolitan newspapers, the
most powerful of the form or
ganizations and the reactionary
majority ot the recently elected

increase from three to four cent
in price ot their daily papers.
The Daily New increase will
go into effect Dec. 31 and the
Herald American on Jan.
Both paper attributed the in
crease to mounting war costs
and said it wa necessary to
maintain editorial standard.
