for the Funnies" comedy-acro
dancing routine.
The rhythm section of the
show is handled by Jim and
Mildred Mulcay, Moro and Ya
conella and Dorene Wilson. The
Mulcays, with their twin har
monica work, stand out in novel
interpretations of both pops and
standard tunes.
Moro and Yaconella, "Mexi
can Hillbilly" singing comedians
make big with the horseplay as
they deliver their songs. They
also strum a couple of very
mean guitars as anyone who has
seen them on the stage or in the
films "Las Vegas Nights,"
"Down Argentine Way," "Fies
ta," etc., will vouch for.
The lovely thrush, Dorene
Wilson, takes the spot In "Holly
wood Follies" to put over her
songs In big-time style. Dorene
has a strictly In the groove voice
that is solid whether she's sing
ing sweet or swing.

Follies" talent roster, and add
ing a very pulchrltudlous touch

Mormon pioneers and turned into heavy bearing farmlands,
now is undergoing another transition a change Into an In
dustrial area.
Indicative of the change la
the huge increase of Utah In
dustrial payrolls. In the third
quarter of 1942, they were 353.

to that of the whole year of
1934.
Included on the payrolls are
more than 23,000 women. This
feminine part of the huge army
of industrial plant employes,
alone, has Increased 11,000 in
the past year.
Besides the women, there are
69,850 men working in indus
try. These figures are based on a
department of employment se
curity survey In which question
naires were sent to more than
3,000 of the state's 7,000 em
ployers. They do not Include
persons working for, local, state
and federal governments In
normal operations or any who
are performing renovating and
Inspection work.
Mines Going Full Speed '
Ray R. Adams, executive di
rector of the department, said
that when all reports are re
turned they will show more
than 115,000 men and women
approximately a fifth of the
state's total population em
ployed In various industries.
But it Is little wonder that
the state's citizens should be
turning out in such numbers
when it is considered that the
majority of mines and smelters
are going at full blast, while
hundreds of other industries
have expanded their plants to
handle Increased business and
still more privately-owned shops
are handling thousands of dol
krs worth of piece-work con
tracts. Among the state's chief indus
tries is the mine and smelter

and largest Is Columbia Steel
Corp.'s giant 8130,000,000 Gen
eva plant now under construe

The other Is the Kalunite, Inc.
a processing, plant to convert
alunite from Marysvaie, utan
into alumina for refining into
aluminum at Tacoma, Wash.

The new steel plant when
completed will cover approxi
mately two-thirds of a 1.800

The new Integrated unit will
consist of three blast furnaces
for producing pig Iron; nine
open-hearth furnaces to con
vert pig Iron into steel; a bat
tery of four coke ovens; a slab
bing mill: a plate mill, and a
structural steel mill. Nearly
4.700 workers, Including an of-
fice staff of more than 200, will
be employed when the plant
goes into operation.
Surrounding the plant Itself
will be several other buildings,
including 1,500 person cafe

3,000 workers, a permanent ad
ministration building, hospital,
large machine shop and various
temporary buildings.
Several other large projects
directly dependent on the steel
plant also are being developed
or recently have been complet
ed. They Include construction
of 6.6 miles of railroad track to
the coking coal supply near Col
umbia, Utah; opening of the
Geneva coal mine, largest In the
state; construction of 500 bee
hive coke ovens at Columbia to
supply coke for expanded facil
ities at Ironton, Utah, and open
ing of limestone and dolomite
quarries in the vicinity of Pay-
son.
The Kalunite plant, being
built and operated for the D
tense Plant Corp., will, upon
completion, be the first of its
kind in America.
Already Been Trebled
Because It Is a completely new
enterprise, it haa been recom
mended for close attention by
the Academy of Science.
Originally authorized as
83,000,000 concern, It since has
heen trebled and may be en.
larged still further If Its pro
cessing proves completely suc
cessful.
Consisting of 11 buildings, the
plant Itself will occupy only
small part of a 72-acre site. The
remainder will be used for ore
storage and tailings.
The plant will include gener
al offices, personnel headquar
ters, laboratories, a power plant,
furnace and chemical buildings,
storage warehouses, a machine
shop and a dryer building.
Present plana call for the
plant's entire output to be
shipped to the OUn Corp. plant
at Tacoma, for processing into
aluminum.

shot and killed his 25 year-old
wife, Lorrayne, in an argument
over disciplining of their five-year-old
son.
Neighbors told police the
Stokers began arguing yesterday
afternoon when Mrs. Stoker Je
manded her husband apologize
to their son, Wayne, Jr., for a
reprimand the father gave the
boy for tearing his shirt
The wife ran to the apartment
of a neighbor after aending the
son from the room. Then she re
turned to her own apartment
and tried to break the door
Stoker, detectives said, opened
the door and shot his wife
through the heart with a small
caliber gun, killing her.
While a neighbor called police.
Stoker, a hardware store buyer.
carried his wife's body inside
the apartment and placed It on
a couch. Aa detectives arrived,
Stoker stepped into the bath
room and shot himself through
the gtomach.
