War Gives America Corner On Horse Breeding Market Br JACK CUDDY United Press Staff Correspondent, New York, Dec. 21 (U.fO Taking a whirl on ths gports-go round: An emergency meeting of major league club owners will b held in New York Feb. 8 the day before the annual schedule meeting to crystalize plans for ths 1943 training and playing season and to coordinate the complete program wltb latest government transportation suggestions. When the war is over we cani expect a tremendous demand from turf men In other countries for American thoroughbreds. Because of ths wsr, ws have virtually cornered the thorough bred breeding market. Even the British nave shipped large portion of their choice stock to this country. There now are approximately 1,000 farms In 40 states with total of almost 1,000 stallions and 12,000 mere, many of them gathered from all parts of Europe, Australia and South America. Youth Is hsvlng Its fling on the Boston Bruins, pace-setters of the National Hockey league. Behind the clubs astonishing success this season Is the kid line composed of Billy ShlU, Don Gallinger and Bep Guldo lin. It Is ths youngest and most effective rookie combine tlon aeen in the league In many years a combination that has inspired the squad's older play ers to surprising efforts. "Two-ton" Tony Gslento, for mer heavyweight challenger, who is grooming for a come back .trained all last week at Bey's camp. Summit, N. J. This week ha expects to shift his conditioning quarters to Still man's gym in New York. He plana to return to ths ring in annus six weeks. The Rosa bowl commutes is slated to convene soon and vote a portion of the UCLA-Georgia game profits to war relief. How ever, ws understand that the Sugar bowlers of New .Orleans can't follow suit because of clauses preventing any money from being given to charity un til the Sugar bowl bond issue is redeemed. Skating both Ice and roller is beginning to feel the war time pinch. This sport, which had been growing lustily In re cent years due to stimulants from ths various skating revues and movies, Is short about 400, 000 blades and rollers as Christ mas approaches. Priorities have prevented their manufacture for months.
