"Mrs. Wlggs of the Cabbage
Patch," the famous Alice Hegan
Rice rtory of the tumbledown
shantytown on the wrong Bide of
the tracks and of the lovable peo
ple who live there, now comes
to the screen 1942 style with
Fay Bainter," star of "War
Against Mrs. Hadley," In the title
role. "Mrs. Wiggs" opens a three
day run today at the Craterian
Theatre. .
Hugh Herbert plays the mall
order husband and Vera Vague,
of radio fame, portrays Tabitha
Hazy, the flustery seamstress.
Read and loved by millions of
Americans for almost half a cen
tury, "Mrs. Wiggs" comes to the
movie screen as fresh as the day
it was written. The Wiggs chil
dren with the geographical
names, Asia, Australia and Eu
ropena, and their brothers, Billy
and Jimmy, are there along with
"Ameriky," the orphan horse,
and "Klondike," the dog. There's
a pair of lovers, too, John Arch
ed and Barbara Brltton, as Dr.
Kennedy and Lucy Alcott.
"Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage
Patch" bids fair to be one of
the major treats of the movie
season.

Mobilization Held

A mobilization meeting was
held Thursday night by Boy
Scout troop 3 in Roosevelt school
gymnasium with Arnold Green,
assistant Scout executive, as in
spector. About 20 Scouts were
present and after the troop dem
onstrated the proper respect for
the flag by the use of posters
which Glen Kircher, patrol lead
er, had drawn, Mr. Green in
spected the Scouts for neatness
and positron of badges.

Louis Powell, junior assistant
Scoutmaster, and several com
mitteemen from the Lions club,
which sponsors the troop, were
present at the mobilization.

which opens a three-day run
today at the Holly theatre.
Constance Bennett tops the
list and appearing with her are
Brod Crawford, Patric Knowles,
Anne Gwynne, Leo Carrillo,
Andy Devine and Ward Bond.
Each of these distinguished
players is said to have a vitally
important role In the film which
deals excitingly with lawless
ness during an oil boom in the
southwest. Miss Bennett and
Crawford are teamed as itiner
ant "sharpers" who become in
volved in shady politics and
illicit transactions - while the
mushroom community seethes
in its own fantastic extrava
gance. Ray Enright, remembered for
his direction of "The Spoilers,"

Oak Grove Neighborhood club
has completed furnishing a day
room at Camp White, a project
which the organization of thir
teen women assumed two weeks
ago through the Red Cross. Mrs.
Edith Connell la president of
the club and the committee mem
bers most active in securing the
furnishings for the room were
Mrs. Alleen Pickering, Mrs. Ethel
Root, and Mrs. Pearl Campbell.
Mrs. L. P. Crocker, publicity
secretary of the club, said Sat
urday the women desired to pub
licly extend their thanks to
those who had aided in the work.
The room is occupied by Co. C,
362nd infantry. Captain Fair,
commanding.
The club plans to keep a sup
ply of cookies available for the
men using the room and anyone
in the Oak Grove neighborhood
wishing to join in this effort may
leave their cookies at Shores'
store on Jacksonville highway,
