I CAN SALVAGE
OF OUTLETS HERE
School Heads Will Delay
Campaign Until Provision
Made For Shipment
Although the state-wide tin
can salvage campaign Is sche
duled to open In Oregon Tues
day and starts Saturday In Port
land, school children In Med
ford will not be asked to begin
the local tin can campaign un
til later date. According to
local sources no collection of
cans will be scheduled here un
til an outlet is provided for the
scrap.
E. H. Hedrlck, city school
superintendent, stated that no
thing can be done here until
agencies are provided for get
ting the tin cans to some de
tinning point Local bottling
agencies have been designated
by their national association as
collectors of the tin cans after
they are gathered by the schools.
However the bottling agencies
already have tin cans on hand
and no outlet for them.
The public will be notified
when the campaign is opened in
Medford.
The county sohoot superin
tendent's office stated that the
rural schools have been asked
not to participate in the cam
paign as planned by the state
department of education. This
was deemed advisable due to
shortage of means by which the
tin cans could be brought to
central gathering spot
