A cache of "at least $30,000"
more in cash, stocks, gold and
Jewelry belonging to Saverlo
Arianl, former Chicago bank
president, has been seized, the
federal bureau of Investigation
announced tonight.
Arlani, 64, his wife, Minnie,
and their sons, Carlo, 33, and
Romolo, 30, were arrested Sept.
4 at their San Francisco home
on charges of concealing assets
from bankrupt estate. Agents
obtained nearly $50,000 In cash,
stocks and other assets In a safe
at the Arianl home when they
were arrested.
Agents also found a receipt for
safe deposit box at the Hlbor
nla Savings and Loan Society in
San Francisco, which Arianl ad
mitted was his, although it was
under a fictitious name. The
box, opened today, yielded $2000
in cash, $719 in gold, $10,000 in
U. S. government bonds, $2,000
in railway equipment and realty
company bonds, four diamonds,
two gold bracelets, two diamond
lavallers, three gold watches and
008 shares of miscellaneous
stocks.

ment against him was dismissed
later with leave to reinstate. An
extradition hearing for removal
of the family will be held Sept.
24.
The $100,000 confiscated by
the FBI will be held as evidence
when the family faces trial with
the possibility the trustee in
bankruptcy may liquidate assets
to pay off creditors.
Mrs. Arianl and the two sons
were freed on bond, but Ariani
remained in Jail in lieu of $23.

F- pilots have given up some og
their best planes, fields and
barracks to boost American mor
ale by making United States
fliers feel at home.
In some cases, British filers
are living In tents at half-finished
fields, while Yanks occupy
comfortable bilHets at their for
mer bases. British officers have
loaned out cooking staffs until
such time as the Americans can
organize their own facilities.
As a result, I found In a tour
of American bases here. United
States fliers have the greatest
respect for their British com
rades. The British, too, are most
pleased with the Americans.
American fighter pilots, who
from the "infantry of the air
in sky battles over the continent.
are the prima dinnas of the
United States army air forces in
Britain. Their .every ache, pain.
gripe, and sign of temper are
noted carefully by doctors, intel
llgense officers and flight com
manders.
A careful watch Is kept on
their morale, which may depend
on any number of circumstances
from the meals they eat to the
entertainment that is provided
during their off-hours.
American officers have told
me and I believe It from what
I've seen here that the morale
of American pilots in Spitfire
squadrons is the highest of any
fliers anywhere.
Among factors which contri
bute to this are the confidence
the American pilots have in
their equipment and the respect
they have for the men who
command them.
Great competition exists be
tween the various American
Spitfire squadrons in Britain.
and it is not unusual for fliers
to hand around the field during
their leisure hours for fear they
may miss something. But the
competitive spirit . disappears
once the men are in the air. For
they know their lives depend on
teamwork.

Sgt. H. M. Varner of San Rafael
tonight told residents of his
home town of his travels as one
of the seven crewmen of "Alex
ander the Swoose,' famed Flying
Fortress bomber.
Ha said the ship scored hits
on three Japanese transports,
two cruisers, an on tanker, and
shot down five enemy planes
over Macassar Straits. It is the
only American plane to return
to this country after fighting all
over the Pacific. .

MORMON MEET POSTPONED

Annual general conference ses-
sions of the Latter Day Saints
(Mormon) church, scheduled for
October 3 and 4 in Salt Lake
City, have been cancelled, It
was announced today by the
church presidency. The general
conference sessions will be re
placed by limited meetings of

Christy, 36-year-old ex-convict
of Los Angeles and San Fran
cisco, had confessed to the mur
der of four Miamians on July
17-
Melchen said part of the con
fession was obtained while the
suspect was being returned to
Miami from Jacksonville, where
he was arrested Wednesday, and
that the full confession was
signed here tonight at county
Jail in the presence of city and
county officers.
State Attorney G. A. Worley
said the murderer's motive was
revenue.
Worley quoted Christy as say
ing he came to Miami from Cal
ifornia, where he was released
from prison five months ago.
