Norma Shearer, who once

stay there.
The wealthy, 36-year-old
movie actress and Martin Ar
rouge. Sun Valley, Idaho, ski
teacher who is eight years her
junior, will be married ' here
Sunday and live in her luxuri
ous Santa Monica Beach home.
"We decided quickly on the
marriage," the widow of Screen
Producer Irving Thalberg said
at the marriage license bureau,
"and we haven't completed our
plans. We are so very happy."
The lithe, athletic Arrouge,
who has not been married be
fore, seemed ill at ease as the
curious crowded into the license
bureau but Miss Shearer saved
the situation by acting as spokes
men to questioners.
Arrouge, former University of
Nevada student, is attending a
navigation school in nearby Van
Nuys and plans to enlist in the
army after the honeymoon. He
is a native of San Francisco and
Miss Shearer was born in Mon
treal. One of the wealthiest women
. in the film colony, Miss Shear
er's income ranged upward to
$300,000 while she was active
in pictures. Thalberg's estate
was $2,244,000 after all taxes
had been deducted. Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer
studio, in which Miss
Shearer owns a large block of
stock, paid her $900,000 to re
main in pictures because a
clause in her contract provided
she could retire upon Thalberg's
death.

company payrolls "and will not
be re-employed under any cir

stated.
Joseph D. Cannon, regional
CIO director, who said the men
stopped work Tuesday because
a CIO plant chairman had been
dismissed for "no good reason,"
declared this morning that:
"Reynolds is bluffing
They can't get along without
these men. There are no other
trained workers available to
take their places They'll
have to take them back."
