M tiring Honored
At Dinner Party
En Route South
Lieut. Col. Herman J. Meiring
and Mrs. Meiring were honor
guests at a dinner given Thurs
day evening of this week at the
home of Mr. and Mri. C. T.
Steward, Eastwood Drive. The
Melrings, who formerly resided
In Medford, were enroute to
Muroc Lake, In California. Col.
Meiring has been transferred to
a California station from Mo
Chord field, Tacoma, where
they spent the past several
months and on the way south
the couple stopped briefly in
Medford to visit friends.
Assisting Mrs. Steward as
hostess were Mrs. Earl York and
Mrs. Tim Daily. Forty guests
were included for the pleasant
affair. Music for the evening
was furnished by the Prentice
accordian band.
Boussum-Holley
Marriage Rite
Are Announced
The wedding of Miss Florence
Boussum, daughter of Mrs. Cora
Boussum, S16 Mary street, and
Fay A. Holley was announced
yesterday by the bride's mother.
The service was read at Yreka,
Calif., with the couple attended
by the bride's sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. James Jor-
Sanson of Yreka.
For the wedding tha bride
wore a silk Jacket suit of rob
in's egg blue with accessories of
white.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Holley are
well known In Medford. Mrs.
Holley, who graduated ' from
Medford high school, is on tha
staff of the Craterian theatre
and Mr. Holley Is with the local
force of the state police: They
will make their home at 201
East Twelfth street after their
return from " short wedding
trip.

Memorial Service
Given By Rebekah
A memorial service for Mrs.
Margaret Ellen Fisher was given
by the officers of Olive Rebekah
lodge at the meeting of the order
last Monday night. Mrs. Fisher,
who passed away recently, was
member of long standing of
the lodge.
Following the session at the
ball members adjourned to tha
home of Mrs. Ina Huson. noble
(rand, where a lawn party was
enjoyed. Mrs. Huson was assist
ed by Mrs. Lottie Cave and Mr.
and Mrs. A. Hammerley. The en
tertainment committee was Mrs.
Ella Could and Mrs. Lottie How
ard. Games were played and
refreshments served. About 60
were present.
The next meeting of the group
will be August 17 at the hall
and will be followed by a party
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. Dyer, 29 Myrtle street.
Mrs. Ed. Pease will be refresh
ment chairman and Mrs. Emily
Conrad, program chairman.
Chaplain Scheduled
For Union Meeting
Chaplain Johnson of Camp
White will speak at a meeting
of the Medford W. C. T. U. to
be held Thursday afternoon at
tha home of Mrs. Richard
Klemm, 1119 West Main street
at 2:15 p. m. The meeting will
be held on the lawn of Mrs.
Klemm's home and in addition
to the speaker there will be
music and refreshments will be
served.

noon. Twelve valley women

et!. The affair was a bridge
luncheon. The Minneapolis woman, who
is spending the summer on the
west coast, is a house finest of
Mrs. Paul Janney of the Oak
Grove district.

At Newbury Home
Two Informal dinner parties
, were given the past week by
i Mr. and Mrs. Don Newbury at
their home, 7 Eastwood drive.
The affairs were Wednesday
and Friday evenings, with clRht
guests bidden for Wednesday
and 12 for Friday night. Dinner
i was served at tables arranged
on the lawn of the garden and
was followed by bridge.
The dinners were the first of
a series for which the Newburys
will be hosts.

Wedding Ceremony
At Gospel Church
The marriage of Miss Anna
Lee Russell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis M. Russell. Mor
row road, to Clifford E. Lan
dreth, took place Wednesday
evening, August 8, at the Four
square Gospel church. Rev. W.
Shearburn performed the cere
mony before an altar decorated
with pink and white gladioli.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
K'hite taffeta with a full-length
veil and carried a bouquet of
pink roses and gardenias.
She was attended by Miss
Wanda Faye Cassman as maid
of honor and Miss Doris Knut
son. Miss Dortheen Moore and
Miss Vernlce Vromen .were
bridesmaids. A reception was
held at the home of the bride's
parents following the wedding
ceremony and the couple left
later for the coast on their wed
ding trip.
The bride attended the Med
ford schools and is well known
here while Mr. Landreth came
to Medford recently from east
ern Oregon. They will make
their home here for the present.

Among the brides of this
week was Miss Barbara Fish, a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.
Fish, 408 N. Ivy street, whose
son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Sponsel
son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Spansel
ler, Los Angeles, took place
Monday. The ceremony took
place in the Mormon TemDle.
Salt Lake City, with the presid
ing Elder reading the marriage
service.
Miss Fish left Medford several
days ago for Los Angeles, ac
companied by her sister. Miss
Betty Jane Fish. From " Los
Angeles the bride and groom mo
tored to Salt Lake City, accom
panied by Miss Cheril Sponsel
ler, the groom's sister.
The bride has many friends In
Medford, having attended the
local high school last winter.
The Fish family is active in the
Medford church of Latter Day
Saints, Mr. Fish being an Elder
of the church.
Mr. and Mrs. Sponseller will
make their home in Los Angeles
after September 1st.
Birthday Celebrated
At Gunn Home Sunday
Little Miss Barbara Gunn was
honored with a surprise party
on her eighth birthday last Sun
day afternoon at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George Gunn of Ross Lane. The
guests played games and a birth-1
day luncheon was served from ,
tables set on the lawn. Red and
white decorations were used for
the table and a birthday cake
was used for the centerpiece. '
The honor guest received many
presents. Present were Nancy
and Jean Cox. Barbara Pillar,
Betty Clark, Morris Lee Gunn
and Barbara Gunn.

Mavis Nichols
Betrothal Told
At Dinner Party
' Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Nichols.
622 S. Holly street, announced
the betrothal of their daughter.
Mavis, to Maiden LeRoy, son of
Mrs. Jack Crump, Applegate, at
a dinner Tuesday evening of this
week. The dinner was in cele
bration of Miss Nichols' birth
day anniversary and was given
at the Nichols home.
The engagement was revealed
in messages placed in tiny en
velopes which were fastened to
the end of ribbon streamers ar
ranged from the table center
piece to each place. A color
scheme of green and yellow was
used In the table appointment.
A few close friends were in
vited to the announcement din
ner. Miss Nichols' wedding will
be an event of September 13.

Spends Summer Here
Mrs. E. R. Van Leeuwen and
daughter, Jean Lee, of Washing
ton, D. C, are spending the sum
mer in Medford with Mrs. Van
Leeuwen's parents, Mr. and Mrs.

street. Mrs. Van Leeuwen's hus
band is an official of the bureau
of entomology in the U. S. De
partment of Agriculture.

Jack Clarks Have
Many House Guests
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Clark. 617

guests Mrs. Marvin Sledge and
her daughter, Nancy Lou, from
San Anselmo Calif. Just a year
ago Major Sledge, USAC, now
on foreign duty, was in com
mand of a group of men from
Hamilton Field, for a several
weeks' stay at the Medford Air
port. Mr. and Mrs. Clark plan
to take their guests to Crater
Lake. Mrs. Sledge and her
daughter will travel back to Cal
ifornia by way of the coastal
route, visiting friends In For
tuna en route. It is their first
visit to this area.
Mrs. Elwin P. Jones, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark,
and Mrs. Wilfred Kennington. of
Portland, are week-end guests
of the Clarks. Sergeant Jones,
the daughter's husband, Is now
at officers school, Miami Beach,
Florida. Mrs. Kennington's hus
band, a radio technician and sec
ond class petty officer, USNR,
Is now stationed at Bremerton,
Wash.
John Joseph Clark, USNR,
third-class petty officer, Is also
on a short visit to his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Clark.

the photography department of

uated from Medford high school
and from Oregon State college.
The Sheets family has resided in
Medford for many years and the
bridegroom has many friends
here.

Veterans, Auxiliary
Has District Meet
Members of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars and the auxil
iary held a district meeting In
Medford Tuesday evening with
10 Ashland members and two
Grants Pass members in attend
ance in addition to the local
group. Reports were made con
cerning the Klamath Falls con
vention and the meeting closed
with the serving of lunch. Next
meeting of the group will be
Tuesday, August 18.
