Two Arrested David Eugene
Jackson, Eagle Point, was ar
rested by state police today and
charged with failure to stop at
a stop street. He will appear in
court this afternoon. Henry A.
Owens. Ashland, was arrested
yesterday for violation of the
basic traffic rule and will ap
pear next Tuesday.
Confiscate Guns Three Med
ford boys, aged 14, 15 and 16,
were picked up by police yes
terday when citizens complained
that they were shooting indis
criminately along the banks of
Bear creek. Two 22-rifles in the
possession of the boys were kept
by the police and the boys were
to be .brought before the city
police Judge today for a lecture.
They were not arrested.
In Hawaii Robert Childers.
Medford high school graduate
who enlisted in the U. S. navy
last December, is now stationed
at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is
attending the yeoman's school,
according to his mother, Mrs,
Flora Childers of 522 Edwards
street, a teacher in the Roosevelt
school. Letters to Robert should
be addressed Pearl Harbor, Ha
waii, in care of the submarine
base, yeoman s school.
Report Accident Harry Bar
neburg of Barneburg and An
drews Furniture company, re
ported to police yesterday that
a truck of the A-l Brewery had
damaged a davenport which was
being unloaded in the alley back
of the company s store at Sixth
and Front streets. The report
stated that the brewery truck
driver failed to leave sufficient
clearance between the two ve
hicles and that his truck wrench
: ed the end off the davenport.

Motor Damaged Slight dam
age resulted to an electric motor
at the saw mill of the Timber
Products company yesterday
about six p. m. when the motor
caught on fire. The city fire de
partment's chemical truck an
swered a call from the mill and
extinguished the fire. '
Buyer Returns Mrs. Pearl
McCredie, buyer for Adrienne's
store, has returned to Medford
after an extended trip to San
Francisco and Oakland. Mrs.
McCredie reports that fall styles
for women are more "wearable"
than for several seasons. In
Oakland Mrs. McCredie was the
guest of friends.

To Visit Mrs. Maxlne
Dungey of Medford left Sunday
for San Diego, Calif., for a visit
with her husband, LaVern
Dungey, who is attending the 17.
S. Naval Training school there.
While in the south Mrs. Dungey
will also visit her father and two
brothers in Los Angeles. She
expects to be gone two weeks,

With 34 planes in all, the Jap
anese extensively reconnoitered
Hunan, Kwangtung and Kwang-
si provinces today, according to
the Chinese Central News agen
cy, as a sequel to yesterday's
destructive American air attack
on one of their airdromes.
United States army bombers
attacked the airdrome near Can
ton yesterday, destroying at
least 10 grounded enemy planes,
Lieut. Gen. Joseph W. Stilwell's
headquarters announced.
"The Japanese were taken
completely by surprise," a head
quarters communique said.
Besides the destruction of
grounded Japanese planes, the
bombers scored hits on the air
drome runway, it said.
All of the American planes.
Including bombers and fighter
escort, returned safely to their
bases.

O'Brien of Pittsburgh, Pa., the
"Human" Fly," will climb the
face of the Medford branch of
the First National bank Satur
day night at 7:30, according to
W. A. (Bill) Gates, county chair
man of the bond sale committee.
O'Brien, who has been em
ployed at Camp White the past
several weeks, will also hang
by his feet from the top of the
building and extricate himself
from a straight-Jacket. O'Brien
is donating his services to the
committee In the hopes of selling
a large number of war bonds.

ation to former land-owners of
Camp White. The pall will be
busy for several days.
A short session of federal
court this morning was recessed
until 10 a. m. Saturday, after
Judge James Alger Fee granted
orders authorizing the payment
of 80 per cent of the appraisal
prices to three more former
Camp White land-owners who
have vacated their property.
The city fire department Is
now granting permission to citi
zens to burn dry grass on vacant
lots they own, and those wishing
to eliminate these fire hazards
are asked to contact the depart
ment and provide it with infor
mation relative to equipment
available for the burning and lo
cation of the lot.
The city is at present burning
the grass of many city -owned
lots. Ed Ca noose, assistant fire
chief, explained that the fire de
partment was not burning grass
this summer, but was standing
ready at all times in case any
help was needed to extinguish
grass fires that might get out of
control.
