n't fight. Maybe he was coward
then like now."
About the present war, Mark
said: "I tell everybody we got
to fight. That Schicklgruber, he
Is going to make war till the
last man is gone. Dead. Then he
Is going to make suicide you
watch You."
Mark went on to tell about
Hitler's love for coffee, his aver
sion to girls and about the little
cottage he and his mother lived
in. Hitler, he said, wore patch
ed, but clean clothes to school.
"His mother was good wom
an," Mark said. "She work
hard to make him good boy. Now
he is doing this. He is no good,
Ach."
Mark now has another score
to settle with the man who
changed his name to Hitler.
Mark's brother, a farmer In
German-occupied Sudentenland,
pulls his plow by hand. The
Germans confiscated his horses.
To Mark, whose Ideas about
farming are modern and Involve
use of tractors, huge combines,
multiple plows and cultivators,
the fact his brother pulls his
plow by hand is the worst scar
of slavery.
Last Seen In 1902
The Custer county farmer last
saw his former schoolmate In
1902. He came to America In
1906, settled In Oklahoma near

Four members of one family
were killed outright last night
when their automobile was
struck by a rapidly moving
Great Northern passenger train
at Napavine crossing, five miles
south of here.
The victims were Mr. and Mrs.
Mart Hamrirk, 37 and 82, re
spectively, Violet June, 10, and
Melvin, four.
Flagman E. T. Carter told
railroad officials Hamrick drove
directly Into the path of the
train, apparently failing to see
Carter as he tried wildly to sig
nal the driver to stop.

submarine sunk by a destroyer
on Atlantic patrol has been an
nounced by the navy as the As
sociated Press unofficial count
of allied and neutral ship losses
by submarines in the western
Atlantic rose to 396.
The navy declined to give
further details of the sinking of
the U-boat whose 29 dead were
buried at Hampton, but in an
nouncing the recent destruction
of three more merchantmen de
clared the captain of one was
machine-gunned because he re
fused to give the submarine
commander the name of his ves
sel.

allied leaders discuss the prob
lem of diversionary attacks to
ease nazi pressure on the em
battled Russian armies, there is
a continuing possibility that the
Russians will face a new front
in Asia even before Britain and
the United States can open up
any sort of second front in
western Europe.
Japan is believed to have up
ward of 600,000 troops (some
sources estimate as many as
730,000) stationed in Manchu-
kuo and easily accessible parts
of northern China.
Airplanes Ready
A strong proportion of the
Japanese air force also Is based
in Manchukuo, according to the
best available information, with
additional facilities air fields,
fuel supplies, -spare parts, re
pair bases long since com
pleted so that combat operations
could begin the moment the
needed extra planes had been
flown in from China or the Jap
anese home Islands.
If the Japanese should attack
Siberia (and the Aleutian occu
pation well may have been a
move to protect their flank for
such an operation) there Is little
likelihood that it would be set
in motion, however, before late
September or early October.
Primary target of such an at
tack would be, presumably,
Russia's maritime provinces,
and July and August are months
of cloying heat and heavy rains
along most of the lowland SI
berian-Manchukuo border.
Conditions are at their worst
now for troop movements
through the densely wooded
valleys of the Ussurl and Amur
rivers, whose broad, generally
shallow courses mark off most
of the boundary between Siberia
and Manchukuo.
