TREES TO ADORN
CAMP LANDSCAPE
The 91rt Infantry division
area at Camp White, through
cooperation of the Rogue River
National Forest, will be land
acaped and beautified with 500
locust and 500 Chinese elm trees
the coming autumn.
The forest service, making a
present of the trees to Camp
White, will also give technical
assistance in their transplanting.
The saplings, two or three
inches high, will be obtained by
the forest service from the Wind
River nursery, Carson, Wash.
The forest service will also
furnish a 60-foot pine tree for
the August 15 ceremony at
Camp White, at which time the
91st Infantry division of World
war I fame, whose insignia was
and will be a pine tree, will be
reorganized.
Fifty-one thousand tons of
blackplate have been saved by
cutting down its use in bottle
caps.
Do You
Own A
Goldfish?
NOT EVERYBODY owns
a goldfish. Yet, through
this broad western land, many
people do. The number of
westerners who own goldfish is
definitely greater than the num
ber who own ostriches. But it's
probably smaller than the num.
ter of butchers, bakers, candlestick-makers
and other citizens
who own Standard stock.
Of course, It's impossible to
prove this suggestion with sta
tistics. It has been years since
anybody took a goldfish census.
The idea here is merely to infer
that it's commonplace rather
than rare to own a part of
Standard. If your neighbor
owns Standard stock, it's no
more surprising than if he owns
a horse, a soup-tureen, or an
electric ironer.
The exact figures are that
74,567 stockholders own this
Company. Only 3-point-soroe-thing
percent of them own
more than 500 shares each.
Nearly half own 25 shares or
less. If figures mean anything
and if they don't two and
two don't make four Stand
ard is owned by Mr. and Mrs.
Average Citizen ... and a lot
of them.
Furthermore, nearly half out
stockholders live on the Pacific
Coast. Normally they wstch
our operations uitb their own
tyes. That's not wholly possible
in war time. But it insures that
our interests are those of Mr.
and Mrs. Average Citizen. Our
interests are All American.
