AbOT we see Donald Dahlko. seaman first class, of Portland, Ore., having a button sewed en
the cuff of his blouse by charming Dolly Kilgallen. a hostess in a New York City USO clufihouse.
What the picture does not show is how that button got off that sleeve. To be a seaman first class
a fellow has long since learned the simple operation of sewing a button on his middy. Could
it be that Donald deliberately pulled that button off? Could be, what with such an attractive
young seamstress standing by to sew it on again.

LIGHTEN LABORS
Registrations can be made and
permits obtained to enter closed
areas in the Rogue River Nation
al forest at any ranger or guard
station between the hours of 7
a. m. and 8 p. m., or at forest
service headquarters in the Fed
eral building between 8 a. m.
and 9 p. m. except on Satur
days, when the office will be
open from 8 a. m. to noon, it
was announced today by Karl L.
Janouch, forest supervisor.
In the past, Janouch explain
ed, permits have been Issued at
all hours of the day and night
at the guard and ranger stations,
but the limited manpower and
lack of qualified persons avail
able for positions in the forest
at the present time has made it
necessary to establish certain
hours for the Issuing of permits.
Pointing out the Importance
to the guards and rangers of be
ing in good physical condition
to promptly attack fires wnen
they occur, Janouch called on
the public to cooperate with the
forest service in calling for per-
mits and making registrations
during the hours specified, in
stead of disturbing the sleep of
the guards and rangers during
nighttime. Janouch said that
if this were not done, it might
become necessary to place more
drastic closures on the forest in
order to carry out the forest
service's fire control responsi
bilities with the manpower avail
able.
The public was warned that
failure to register or obtain per
mits because it was inconveni
ent to do so during the hours
specified would not be regarded
as an excusable violation of the
law.

least four persons and hospital
ized eight others. The condition
of the injured was described as
serious.
J. L. Stringfield, chief of
police in this little mountain
town, said the explosion oc
curred while a large gasoline
transport was unloading. He
said that indications were that
a leak in the hose touched off
the blast, igniting some 40,000
gallons of gasoline.

Willie Vinson, 25-year-old negro
suspected of the attempted rape
of a white woman, was taken
from a hospital by a group of
men and hanged early today to a
winch at a cotton gin outside
the city.
Watts said the condition of the
negro's body indicated it had
been dragged behind an automo

Vinson was captured early
Sunday morning in a cafe where
he was employed.
Vinson had been tentatively
identified by the woman involved.

Cliff Olsen, slated to face

Mihalikis then faced Buccola
