GESTAPO TO KILL
MALE RELATIVES
OF TERRORISTS
All Men Over 18 Years Re
latives Of Fugitives To Be
Executed, French Told.
Vichy, July 13 OP) The Ger
mans announced today in Paris
they would shoot males over the
age of IS years who are mem
bers of families of fugitives from
German military Justice accused
of terrorism or sabotage.
This applies to "all near male
relatives in the ascending line
as well as brothers-in-law and
cousins." Women of the same
degrees of kinship will be sen
tenced to hard labor and chil
dren of adults thus punished
will be sent to reform schools,
the announcement said.
A notice issued by the Ges
tapo director overnight to the
press in the occupied area said:
"After having observed the
attitude of the French popula
tion in the occupied zone I have
noted that a majority of the
population is continuing to work
in calm. Terrorist attacks, sabo
tage, etc., instigated by the Eng
lish and Soviets are disapproved
of and it is known that it ' is
only the peaceable French popu
lation which suffers the conse
quences.
Relatives Blamed
"I am resolved to guarantee
to the French population in ab
solute fashion, in the midst of
war, continuation of its work in
calm and security but I have
noticed that above all it is close
relatives who help them before
and after the deed.
"I therefore have decided to
make use of the most severe
penalty not only to strike at
perpetrators of terrorist at
tacks, saboteurs and trouble
makers themselves after they
are arrested but also, in case
of escape, as soon as the fugi
tives are known, at families of
these criminals rf the latter do
not present themselves during
10 days following their forfeits
to German or French police
stations." .
Vichy, Unoccupied France, July
1 3(jP)- French gendarmes
Joined German police in a
pitched battle against defiant,
hand grenade-tossing French
men at Houdin, in the Pas
De Calais department, reports
reaching Vichy said today.-
One of the recalcitrant group
was reported killed and a by
stander wounded before the
French and Nazi police stormed
the house in which the French
men, described as "communists,"
were barricaded.
JUDGE HOLDING COURT
IN G. PASS THIS WEEK
Circuit Judge H. K. Hanna is

have been cleared though a
number of filed cases remain to
be brought to issue.
Ten thousand tons of steel
went into the metal tops of the
1,000,000 jars manufactured last
year to hold cosmetic products.
The steel that goes into a
single sewing machine will
make a high explosive shell for
a 75 mm. field howitzer.
