A hardy film that packs
plenty of excitement and ro
mance will make its local bow
at the Craterian theatre today
The title of the picture, "Juke
Girl", in itself speaks of the
warmth, color and excitement
of the story. The film features
one of the most dynamic acting
trios in Hollywood Ann Sheri--dsn,
Donald Reagan and Rich
rd Whorf.
The setting of the film is a
little town known as Cat Tail,
Florida, made up of itinerant
fruit and vegetable pickers. The
largest packing plant is rua by
a man who, because of his posi
tion, rules the town. The role is
played by Gene ' Lock hart. He
sets prices; he gives Jobs and
takes them away; his word is
law.
Ann Sheridan works as a
hostess in the town's only tav
ern and it is there that she
meets Reagon and Whorf who
have come to find work. Reagan
and she immediately strike it
off well together, but Whorf
makes it plain that he hasn't
much time for women.
George Tobias, who plays the
role of a friendly vegetable far
mer, is prevented by Lockhart
from getting a good price for
his product.
Regan goes into partnership
with Tobias and things go along
smoothly until they try to sell
their stuff in Cat Tail. Lock
hart's attempts to stop them fail.
Tobias, in celebration of his
good luck, wants to shaite hands
with Lockhart and forget the
past bitterness. But the meeting
ends in a brutal fight and Tobias
is killed.
The stirring climax is said to
make one of the most thrilling
i hits to show in Medford in many
a moon.

Bond Purchases
About $400,000
Is June Report
Jackson county's patriotic
showing in purchase of war
bonds and stamps during June
totaled $351,000, Incomplete
returns showed yesterday, W.A.
Gates, county chairman of war
bond sales believes complete re
turns should boost the figure
over $400,000, or the cost of
two bombers to the U. S. forces
fighting on scattered fronts
about the world.
Gates said he doubted
if any other place in the "coun
try had done any better. If all
did as well our boys will have
all the guns, tanks and ammu
nition that they need."
Figures on the amount of
purchases of series F and G.
bands are yet to be received
from the Federal Reserve banks
but local banks and post offices
in the county reported sales to
be slightly more than $351,000.
This brings the average to more
than $11 per capita for the fixed
population. Gates said that
uncle Sam asked for 10 per cent
of each individual's salary and
Jackson county responded 100
per cent. According to the June
quota for the state of Oregon
the per capita quota was five
per cent and the county more
than doubled this figure.
