of tentetice by two Siskiyou
county killer will be reviewed
by the atate advisory pardon
board at ban Francisco Tuesday,
It was announced today. ,
The applicants are John Brlte
42, and Coke Brlte, 37, con
victed December 22, 198,- on
three counts each of first de
cree murder.
A Siskiyou county superior
court Jury found them guilty of
killing Fred Seaborn and De
puty Sheriffs Martin Lange and
Joseph Clark on August 29
1936.
I- Their death sentences were
, commuted to life Imprisonment
' by Governor Culbert L. Olson
May 9, 1939. They now seek
. commutation of sentence to time
served.

Mrs. Mabel Hawk Wright
passed away at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Linda Marvin,
2318 Capital avenue, early this
morning. She had been ill sev
eral weeks.
She was born in Mahaffey,
Penn., February 1, 1887, the
eldest daughter of 8. M. Hawk.
She leaves her husband, W. G
Wright, one daughter, Mrs. Lin
da Marvin, a son, Ernest Wright,
tliree sisters, Mrs. Hazel Van
Dermark, Mrs. Catherine Mc
Kinney and Mrs. Anne Davis,
all of Medford, and three both
ers, Norman and Harry Hawk,
Medford, and Sharon Hawk of
Ontario, Ore.
Services will be In the Conger
funeral parlors Monday after
noon at S p. m. with Rev. Herald
G. Gardner officiating. Inter
ment will be in the IOOF ceme
tery.

(Spl.) Plumbers and steam
fitters are urgently needed here
on the $31,000,000 United Slates
naval training station now un
der construction, the Walter
Butler company, contractors for
the big job, announced today.
The call for craftsmen in
cluded 229 plumbers and a like
number of steamfitters. Wages
for the two crafts are $1.55 an
hour for an eight-hour day, with
time and one-half for over eight
hours and Saturdays and Sun
days. Men are now working 10
hours a day, six days a week.

Training School at Cornell Uni
Terslty, Ithlca, New York. He
was granted his commission In
the United States Naval Reserve
on June 1, and was called to
active duty on July 1.
Watson, a graduate of Univer
sity of Oregon In 1939, has been
the manager of the J. Henry
Helser Co. In Medford for tlie
past year. His wife and small
daughter will remain here for
the present, and Mrs. Watson
will be in charge of the Helser

is willing to prophesy that the
eating habits of the entire na
tion may be revolutionized by
the war.
The northern soldiers had a
worse time getting acclimated to
Dixie food than they did to the
Dixie climate.
When a northern soldier saw
a bowl of collard greens, he usu
ally would decide it was spin
ach, take a bite and get a shock.
That famous southern standby
grits wasn't even a word in
the northern soldier's vocabul
ary. And so at first, he didn't like
the food because it was differ
ent. But it's another story now.
and the "Yankees" are calllnf
for hot biscuits instead of white
bread and steamed rice Instead
of potatoes.
And while the southern boys
are getting used to northern
food, midwesterners stationed
along the seaboard are getting
their first chance at oysters,
crabs, lobsters and other sea
foods.
So the quartermaster corps
thinks it had better caution the
home folks to start planning for
the post-war period by ex
changing recipes.
