Saturday for Berkeley, Cal.,
where she will enter the Uni
versity of California for inten
sive training for draftsmanship
and designing.

Recovering Miss Helen Gib
son, five year old. daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gibson of 723
Bennett avenue has recovered
sufficiently from a major opera
tion at Community hospital to
have friends call.
Baby Born Mr. and Mrs.
Charles McKee of route 1 re
ceived word yesterday of the
birth of a son to their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ran
son Vess of Compton, Cal. The
baby, born yesterday, weighed
seven pounds and 14 ounces.
Mrs. Vess is the former Marjorie
McKee.
To Enter Training John
Prentice, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Prentice, 517 Newtown
street, left for Portland Monday
to enter training as a flying
cadet in the U. S. army air
corps. Their other son, William,
has just received his commission
as first lieutenant in the quar
termaster division of the U. S.
army at Fort Warren, Wyo. He
was called into service as a
reserve officer about a year ago.

Cited to Court Benjamin
Leon Lockwood of Talent was
arrested by state police yester
day for operating a logging
truck with an overload. He was
cited to appear in justice court
today. Delmar Lee Terry of
Grants Pass, Jay Zeften Tucker
of Prospect and Robert Fulton
Berry of Central Point, were ar
rested for failure to stop their
cars at a stop sign. Tucker and
Berry will appear in justice
court Thursday and Tucker will
appear Saturday.

Need Workers A call was
issued from the Red Cross of
fice in the county court house
today for volunteer workers to
fold bandages and surgical
dressings at the court house
auditorium each morning begin
ning at 10 o'clock the remain
der of this week and next week.
Miss Lillian Roberts, executive
secretary of the county Red
Cross, said that all volunteer
work would be greatly appreciated.
Collisions W. C. Mattson, no
address listed, driving a passen
ger car and W. Wornstaff of
Portland, operating a logging
truck collided recently on the
Butte Creek road. The Mattson
car was badly damaged, a re
port on file stated. C. W. Yates
of 1218 West Main street and
G. R. Kirkpatrick, both operat
ing passenger cars, were involv
ed in a minor accident on the
Crater Lake highway about one
eighth of a mile north of Camp
White Tuesday at 6:45 a. m, a
report filed yesterday stated.
Return Home Mr. and Mrs.l
George Davis and son. Bud of
South Oakdale avenue have re
turned home after a week's va
cation at Portland, Tacoma and
Chehalis, where they visited
relatives and friends.
To San Jose Mr. and Mrs.
C. R. Reynolds of 38 North
Peach street plan to return to
Medford Saturday after a motor
trip to San Jose, Cal., where
they will attend the graduation
of their daughter, Mareta from
San Jose State college.
Nephew Killed Mrs. L. F.
Slavens of 506 South Newtown
street, has received word that
her nephew, George P. Deal of
Centralia, Wash., was killed
June 3 in the Japanese bombing
of Dutch Harbor. Mr. Deal was
employed by a construction com
pany ana was the only employe
killed.
Move to Medford Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Wilson are now
making their home at 607 West
11th street while both are em
ployed at the cantonment. Mr.
Wilson, a member of the Pros
pect high school faculty for sev
eral terms, has been superinten
dent of schools at Gaston, Ore.,
for the past two years. Mrs.
Wilson formerly resided in Med

charges, has been arrested here
by the federal men. Richard B.
Hood, FBI agent in charge here,
