Baltic fleet air arm have sunk
nine German transport ships
and at least one other vessel in
the past three days, the Moscow
radio announced tonight
One ship was said to have
been sunk during an attack on
a German naval base In which
an ammunition dump waa
blown up and anti-aircraft bat
teries were silenced.
(Just where the Stormoviks
attacked was not announced,
but it waa believed they were
hitting at German moves to re
inforce the nazia on the north
western and far northern front
in Russia by way of the Baltia
and the gulf of Finland.
Three German battalions,
supported by 33 tanks, were re
pulsed In one sector of the Get
man-Russian front with losses
of about 900 killed and 10 tanks
destroyed, dispatches from th
battle area said today.
Only minor encounters were
reported on the Kalinin front,
northwest of Moscow, and on
the southwestern and southern
fronts.
The Soviet Information bu
reau said Germany's central
front army has lost several hun
dred Infantrymen, killed or
wounded, and eight tanks In on
assault on red army forces oper
ating behind German lines.
Russian fliers wer credited
with downing two German
planes by ramming.
A communique said red army
scouts wiped out a 100-man gar
rison on the Kalinin front, whil
Guerrillas killed 2S0 Germans
by derailing troop train. They
also were credited with a raid
on a big railway station and th
destruction of an ammunition
dump and 1,300 yards of track.

of State Hull today as a desper
ate attempt to "Induce Finland
to make further contributions to
axis military campaigns."
Hull made the statement In
reply to a press conference re
quest for comment. He added:
"W are watching th altua-
tton most closely to see whether
this visit of Hitler results In any
greater degree of cooperation
(by Finland) with Hitler against
the United Nations.''
