were ordered by Governor Char
let A. Sprague to arrest any per
son who sells or uses fireworks.
The governor cited an order
by Lieut. Gen. John L. DeWitt,
commanding the western de
fense area, prohibiting the sale
and use of fireworks. This or
der, the governor said, carries
the same force and effect of law.
"It should be noted," the gov
ernor said, "that the sale or use
of fireworks, firecrackers and
even cap pistols is prohibited
throughout the entire state, in
cities, towns, as well .as in all
areas outside Incorporated cities.
Customary roadstands cannot be
operated."

Pacific coast radio stations, si
lenced for the second consecu
tive night as a precautionary
measure, returned to the air at
5:30 a. m. (PWT) today.
A statement by the army last
night said "a radio silence along
the entire Pacific coast from
Canada to the Mexican border
was ordered at 9 p. m. Pacific
Wartime, by the fourth fighter
command, as a precautionary
measure."

1-3 cup sugar
a eggs, beaten
cup molasses
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 teaspoon cloves
V teaspson nutmeg
4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
t cup strained apple sauoe
(unsweetened)
9-3 cup raisins
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
Cream fat and sugar. Add rest
of Ingredients and beat a minute.
Pour into shallow pan lined with
waxed paper. Bake 30 minutes In
moderate oven. Serve warm or cold.
To make sauce, add water to sliced
applea and cook, covered, until ap
ples are soft. Press through strainer.
