TABLE ROCK ROAD
Work will start Monday, wea
ther permitting, on straighten
ing of the Table Rock Market
road from Bybee Bridge over
Rogue River to a quarter mile
aouth of the Agate schoolhouse.
Approval of construction of the
road, was received yesterday
from the government and the
state highway commission by
County Engineer Paul B. Ryn
rung. ' The road will be a mile and
a quarter long, and 22 feet wide,
with shoulders leaving ample
space for parking off the road. It
lies within the Camp White
area, and will be rushed to com
pletion, in order to be read. be
fore the cantonment is complet
ed and first troops arrive. The
new road will eliminate several
curves considered dangerous,
and give a straight approach to
the bridge. Survey for the road
was made about a year ago. It
will have but one slight curve,
where it Joins the highway
again.
Engineer Rynntog said work
on the upper Applegate road
would be finished within the
week. Due to the transporta
tion and supply difficulties
there will be little heavy road
work this summer, but dust pal
liatives will be spread on a num
ber of rural routes.

his home after spending the
past week In Portland Inspecting
shipyards and observing train
ing classes in ship Joinery. An
derson has been designated as
Instructor of a ship joinery class
In Medford according to an an
nouncement made today by E.
H. Hedrick, city school superin
tendent. Although dates for opening of
the class have not been arrang
ed it Is expected that final plans
will be completed in the near
future. Anderson has bad con
siderable experience in this line
of work.

The service is planned to give

Rep. Allen G. Carson, who won
Republican nomination for state
senator from Marion county, also
won the Democratic nomination
for the same office, receiving 43
write-in votes, the county can
vassing committee announced
today.

try, Oregon State Guard, and
those desiring to enlist are

the state guard headqquarters In
the armory on Friday or Tues
day nights, according to Cap!

00 years, Capt Grigsby said,
and added that enlistment in
the state guard offers the op
portunity of obtaining military
training of value in case of
emergency. The state guard Is
a protective force for home de
fense. The full strength of
company A is 60 active and 60
reserve members.
FIRST FOREST FIRE
QUICKLY PUT OUT
The first fire of the season to
tha Rogue River National For
est, started by lightning, was
quickly extinguished yesterday
afternoon by Lowell Ash, fire
guard at the Trail Guard Sta
tion, and two helpers, the forest
service reported today.
A bolt of lightning struck a
large tree about 4:30 p. m. four

ablaze, but the fire was put out
before any damage was done.
