Earl T. Newbry Is seeking
nomination as republican candi
date for state senator, basing his
campaign on his record as a
legislator from this district for
the past four years. In the 1938
session he served as vice chair
man for the labor and industries
committee, was a member of the
agriculture, food and dairy pro
ducts and federal relations com
mittees. In the 1941 session he
again worked on the labor and
industries committee, agricul
ture committee, public Institu
tions committee, was vice chair
man of food and dairy products
Earl T. Newbry
committee, and chairman of the
federal relations committee, and
chairman of th interim com
mlttea on th council of state
governments.
All of these committees are
Important to the district, and
with this experience and back
ground, Mr. Newbry's friends
point out, ha would be Invalu
able for the district on similar
committees In the senate.
It was through Mr. Newbry's
efforts that an agricultural ad
vertising bill was defeated in th
house, upon which Dean Schoen
feld of the school of agriculture
at Oregon State college compli
mented the district on having
defeated the measure. Mr. New
bry has been a tax payer and
resident of' Jackson county for
the past 21 years during which
time he has been engaged in th
farming and fruit growing In
dustry. Mr. Newbry Is manager of
Newbry orchards, operating 200
acres of orchard and a commer
cial packing house located at
Phoenix. He has been active in
civic affairs, having served two
terms on the Talent school
board, several years as a dlrec-
tor of the Jackton county cham-
ber of commerce, Is a member
