written for them. Spencer Tracy
and Katharine Hepburn co-star
in "Woman of the Year," which
opens today at the Craterian
theatre.
This is their first co-starring
picture, and Miss Hepburn's
initial film since "The Philadel
phia Story." Tracy appears as
hard-boiled New York sports
writer and Miss Hepburn is a
sophisticated international col
umnist on the staff of the same
daily.
The romance is played against
humorous backgrounds. Until
she meets Tracy in the picture.
Miss Hepburn has never seen a
baseball game or a football
match. In his turn, Tracy has
never traveled with the spark
ling international set until he
meets the columnist. But they
have one thing in common love
and are married.
When she is chosen as the
most important woman of the
year, Miss Hepburn concentrates
on her career at the expense of
home and husband. It requires
some hard knocks and the Tracy
technique to establish an ideally
happy marriage.

night only at the Roxy theatre

as a lady Judge in "Design for
Scandal," hilarious new comedy
opening today for a three-day
run at the Rialto theatre with
Walter Pidgeon opposite. Ed
ward Arnold and Guy Kibbee
have added roles.
The complications begin when
Jeff's boss, Judson Blair, is di
vorced by his wife, who is also
allotted a monthly alimony of
$4,000 by Judge Cornelia Park
er. Jeff unfolds a scheme by
which he will entangle Cornelia
in a love affair, whereupon a
manicurist friend will sue the
Judge for alienation of affec
tions. By all odds, the result
ing scandal should unseat Cor
nelia from the bench, offering
Blair an opportunity to appeal
his case before a more lenient
judge.
The plot works out beauti
fully until Jeff himself falls vic
tim to the attractions of the
woman he is supposed to at
tract, and his resulting dilemna
brings about some hilariously
situations.
"The Strange Case of Dr
RX" plays as the companion
feature.
