Portland, Ore., April 10 (Pi
Evacuate the Japanese imme
diately and "let us no longer
indulge in false sentimentality
about alien enemies," Gov,
Charles A. Sprague of Oregon
urged last night in a radio ad
dress prompted by the fall of
Bataan's defenses.
"Get the Japanese away from
the Pacific coast and get them
away fast," he said, "else they
may do us injury as they did in
Pearl Harbor and the Philip
pines." He urged they be put to work
in the beet fields or at other
farm labor.

World war I, he came west a
few years later, operating a
dairy ranch and apple orchard
In the Yakima valley until 1925,
when he came to Medford.
Mr. Looker was admitted to
the Oregon bar in 1926 and was
associated with A. E. Reames
in the practice of law at Med
ford tor eight year, from 1928
to 1936, also acting as court
reporter from time to time. He

the Rogue River Valley Traffic
association since 1933 and was
attorney for the Farmers and
Fruitgrowers Bank of Medford,
also serving as cashier of that
institution following the death
of Delroy Getchell. and until th
bank's consolidation with the
U. S. National chain.
He is at present engaged in
private law practice, in the same
office which he established in
1937, also devoting considerable
time to various community and
business activities.
A member of the Masonic
fraternity since he was 21 years
old, Mr. Looker is also a mem
ber of Medford Post No. 15 of
the American Legion, and is
president of the Southern Ore
gon Bar association. In 1940 he
was elected secretary-treasurer
of the Fruit Growers League of
Jackson County.
Concerning his platform. Mr.
Looker states:
"If elected, it will be my pur
pose to continue to devote my
time and efforts to the welfare
of the people, community and
state in which I live. The
slogan which I have adopted.
'Service to my community, state
and nation,' to me is not a group
of idle words.
"We are in a total war, and
our first consideration mutt be
winning that war; otherwise we
will have no interests left to
protect by a wise and judicial
government.
Taxation has always been a
paramount issue in the minds
of the people. Of all times in
cur history we have never been
faced with tax problems of such
magnitude.
"Anything that can be done
to lighten the burden of local
i government without detracting
from its efficiency will be a
contribution to the total war
effort, and if selected by the
people I shall try to be always
alert to guard against expendi
tures which cannot be justified
on the grounds of need and
efficiency."

luncheon-meeting of the Lions
club in Hotel Medford by M.
L. Tedrow, assistant fire ranger
of the Rogue River national for
est.
The movie depicted many
phases and duties in the life
of a ranger, including the seas
onal stocking o f mountain
streams with trout for the bene
fit of anglers, the feeding of
young deer in snow-swept areas,
reforestation, development of
ski areas, pest control in the
forests, weather observation,
fire combatting and others.
Tedrow told the club ttiat re
sorts such as Lake o' Woods
would be open to visitors this
summer, with registration a re
quirement, but that industrial
areas, such as logging, would
be closed to the public.
Bill Stout, member of the
Medford senior high school
band, and candidate for the dis
trict music championship, play
ed a clarinet solo, accompanied
by Miss Marion Burton.
FOR MRS. JONES
Private funeral services will
be held in Medford for Mrs.
Ivan H. Jones, 36, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Nye of Tal
ent, who died at Houston, Texas
last Wednesday after an extend
ed illness. Burial will be in
Siskiyou Memorial cemetary.
Besides her parents, Mrs.
Jones is survived by her hus
band, a lj-months-old daughter,
Marilyn Ruth; a sister, Ruth
Nye of Portland and a brother,
Capt. S. G. Nye of Ft. Warren,
Wvo. Mrs. Jones was born in
Da'ily City, N. D. in 1906.

A torpedo ran wild a distance
of almost six miles in Narra
gansett Bay, struck and dam
aged the navy cargo vessel Ca
pella and injured eight of her
crew, some seriously, the navy
disclosed today.
The accident occurred last
evening, when a. short-circuit in
a safety switch caused the acci
dental discharge of the torpedo
from a motor torpedo boat,
which was engaged in practice
exercises.
