WOMAN DRIVER IS
SERIOUSLY HURT
IN C. P. SMASHUP
Three persons were injured,
one seriously, in near head
on collision between the Chev
rolet coupes driven by Mrs.
Louis Vestal, Glendale, and
Wolfe G. Bauer, Williams, near
the intersection of the Pacific
highway and Maple streets in
Central Point about 4 p. m.
yesterday. -
; Mrs. Vestal, lone occupant of
the machine heading north, sus
tained a severe concussion and
possible skull fracture and a se
vere gash over the right eye,
her physician said today. She
was rushed to the Community
hospital by Perl ambulance.
Her condition is said today to
be serious,
' Mrs. Bauer, a passenger in
the southbound auto, suffered a
facial laceration and knee
bruises and Mr. Bauer's chest
was bruised. They were treated,
by a local physician yesterday.
Their son Larry, aged two and
one-half years, was not Injured
- Left front ends of both cars
were badly damaged and the
top of the Vestal machine was
smashed in. Emit Williams,
who was working nearby and
raw the cars collide, said Mrs.
Vestal's coupe rolled over twice
after the Impact. Her auto
caught fire and the Central
Point fire truck was summoned
to extinguish the blare.
Bauer told state police that
Mrs. Vestal was traveling on the
wrong side of the highway and
that he saw her approaching but
could not avoid the collision.
r Bauer said he was traveling
about 40 and estimated her
speed as about the same.
A motorist told state police
that Mrs. Vestal's machine had
crowded him off the highway a
abort time before.
