joining labor unions, Arthur M.
Gilbert, Eugene builder, who la
member of the Seventh Day
Adventist church and leader of
the group, revealed today.
' Gilbert said conferences with
the contractors in charge of the
project revealed that only union
men could be employed. Mem
bers of the sect bave religious
scruples against Joining labor
unions, basing their attitude on
"our interpretation of scriptures,
making a man's first loyalty to
God and our belief that as
American citizens we are en
titled to keep our beliefs and
work," Gilbert added.

$3,081,000 in the general fund,
Riley reported.
Remnants of a cash deficiency
which only a few years ago
reached a toUl of $82,000,000
have been wiped out, the con
troller said. "A surplus of at
least $10,000,000 appears assur
ed within the next few months,"
he added.
